Ease yourself and the kiddies into a new month with our fun suggestions for the week ahead!
How is August here already?! We can’t believe how quickly the year is flying by and how quickly the kids are growing up (slow down already!). So what’s happening in Singapore this week? That depends. New mum? Head to the best places in Singapore to visit with a teeny tot. Got mum mates? Celebrate your gal pals with a glass of plonk on the official UN-recognised day. Tired mum? Check out our recommendations of where to enjoy the best cups of go-go juice on the island.
1. Celebrate the International Day of Friendship
It’s official: 30 July is the world-recognised International Day of Friendship. Here in Singapore, we’re used to the transient nature of mateship, so we’re extra inclined to have a night off, grab our newbie, established, mum and non-mum chums and have a good chinwag over a (large) glass of vino (or two). Cheers to that!
2. Take your bubba out
We know facing the big wide world avec your newborn bundle can be a bit intimidating when you’ve got to consider things like pram access, nursing rooms and changing facilities, among everything else. No dramas – we’ve compiled a round-up of the best places to head to on the little red dot with your bub for a fuss-free day out. Banish the cabin fever and get exploring!
3. Recycle your e-waste
It might not be time for a ‘spring clean’ given the fact Singapore is hot and humid all year round, but we still love a regular clear out! If you’ve got some old appliances collecting dust at home, now’s the time to have a sort and dispose of your e-waste responsibly. You never know: you might even be able to make some cash if things are still in working order.
4. Book your National Day feasts!
Unless you’ve been hiding out in a cave recently, you’ll have noticed that National Day is creeping up on us, meaning a lovely four-day weekend to spend with the fam. If you’re a foodie (and, let’s face it, who isn’t in Singapore?), then you’ll want to book your tables at the tastiest eateries in town. Lucky for you we’ve rounded up some of the hottest dining-out offerings for SG54. Don’t forget to kit yourself out in red and white clothes and swot up on the history behind the occasion while you’re at it!
5. Grab some manga merch
If you’ve got a manga fan in your midst or if you’re one yourself, then you’ll be wanting to head to Uniqlo this week. The Japanese retailing giant is rolling out its One Piece: Stampede collection to tie in to the upcoming cinema release of the animated fantasy film of the same name. One Piece is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, so you’ll want to grab a piece of the action: tees for adults ($14.90) and kids ($12.90) are available at stores islandwide and online.
