It's Find of the Week time and we've been busy scoffing pastries, exploring jungle greenery and watching the kids play while we sup pink lattes...
The struggle to find a decent cup of coffee that also has a side order of fun for the kiddos on the menu is, we’re sure you’ll agree, real. And so it was with many wide smiles and to much excitement that we stepped into the brand new Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari tent – kids in tow – for a fab cafe experience where the grown ups were as well catered for as the small people. So much hurrah!
The new cafe on the block
We’ve long been fans of super kid-friendly Open Farm Community, and now this little pocket of glorious green just got even more fantastic thanks to a collaboration with Tiong Bahru Bakery. That empty space outside OFC? It’s empty no more! Now it’s a safari tent that wouldn’t be out of place on the African plains.
Yep: Tiong Bahru Bakery is exploring its wild side and has set up camp in historic Dempsey, where a nutmeg plantation once flourished and spice traders thrived. And it’s brought its handmade croissants, unique lattes (blue pea and beetroot anyone?) and amazing super breakfast jars under canvas in a pretty garden setting. Pitched as “part glamping, part flavour lab, part history lesson,” this is one brunch adventure the whole family is sure to love.
What makes it kid-friendly?
We all know that kids like space, and this place has it in spades. Think outdoor playground, a boules lawn, plenty of jungle greenery to explore and an edible garden to get busy in. Add to that bunnies, chickens and plenty of great eats, and this place was made for families.
What’s on the menu?
We tried as much as we possibly could on your behalf (you’re welcome) and notable faves included the Turmeric & Ginger Latte($6.50), Beetroot & Ginger Latte ($6.50) and the new and exclusive to the Safari, Power-Breakfast Jars. We’re talking pandan-infused pineapple on rolled oats in black sesame-infused milk ($8.80) and papaya infused with tumeric on a fluffy bed of tapioca pearls with coconut milk ($8.50). All made using fruits and herbs straight from the on-site garden!
There’s also plenty of tried-and-tested bakery staples including sandwiches, breads, pastries and cakes to keep the whole fam full and happy. Cafe bliss.
Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari, 130E Minden Road; www.facebook.com/tiongbahrubakery. Open daily 8am-5pm (walk in only: no reservations – get there early folks!)
