Mark June 14 in your calendars: The Great Singapore Garage Sale is back, with pre-loved toys, clothes, books and handmade items – plus entertainment for the kids!
If you grew up in a city with a great second-hand shopping culture and are having withdrawal symptoms from garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores – or just love hunting down a great bargain – this will be music to your ears: The Great Singapore Garage Sale is gearing up for its second round, this Sunday June 14.
The first event, which took place in March this year, was created as a way to combat throw-away culture and encourage the recycling of goods by swapping, buying and selling pre-loved items. It was a spectacular word-of-mouth success, with over 1000 bargain hunters hitting the stalls over the three-hour event.
“Singapore is a small island, and so we should reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. All of us in Singapore love to shop, and many of us have cupboards full of perfectly good things we just no longer need or use,” says organiser Rebecca Daniels.
The June 14 event will be held at the gardens of Goodman Arts Centre from 9am to 12pm: expect 40 stalls offering children’s clothing and toys, handmade jewellery, books and much more. And this is one garage sale your kid won’t mind being dragged along to: there’ll be homemade cakes, savouries and mini burgers to scoff. Plus there’ll be plenty of entertainment, with balloon animals and face painting – rumour has it a magician will appear on the day.
See you there, treasure hunters…
