Chinese New Year seems to have sidetracked us a tad from the other big occasion happening in February: Valentine’s Day! We say round up a babysitter, ditch the kids, pull on your glad rags and try a romantic restaurant where you won’t have to order one single chicken nugget. Here’s where we want to be whisked off to on the day of lurve (hint, hint)…

The Knolls, Capella Singapore

If you fancy jetting away with your love for Valentine’s Day, but you can’t leave the pests kids, then head over to Sentosa instead where you can grab some holiday feels (well at least for the duration of your meal). Treat yourself to a dining experience at The Knolls where a four-course meal including a Chef’s Selection of Seasonal Oyster, Line-Caught Cod Fish Confit and Slow-Cooked Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast with a sweet ending of Balinese Dark Chocolate Mousse will be served overlooking the very romantic cascading pool (pictured top).

The Salon, Hotel Fort Canning

For something simple but elegant, head to the park for a four-course dinner surrounded by lush greenery. Be serenaded while you dine on Hokkaido Scallop, Baked Norwegian Salmon with Prosciutto and Chargrilled Grass-fed Wagyu Beef, and finish off the meal with a Classic Fudge Cheesecake to sweeten the deal.

Flutes

Flutes has long held the title as one of Singapore’s most romantic dining spots (we’ve been going there for special occasions since it was at leafy Fort Canning). It’s current location in the breathtaking National Museum only ramps up the romance factor. The impeccable service doesn’t hurt matters either. Food wise, expect to be wowed with dishes like Sockeye Salmon Rillette, Cape Grim Tenderloin and Marou Chocolate Tart with cherries and coconut ice-cream.

If you’re in the mood for Cantonese with a modern twist, Mitzo is just the ticket. Sip on a complimentary sweet and bubbly pre-dinner cocktail, Bed of Roses made with Campari infused with longan red date tea and topped with Prosecco, and then bring on the six-course meal specially created by Executive Chef Nicky Ng. Dine on dishes like Truffle Chicken Spring Roll, Double-boiled Abalone Soup, Pork Rib and Steamed Lobster with Miso and Pink Ginger.

The Ottomani

The Ottomani has put the sexy back into supper club: the moment you swish through the velour curtains and take a seat on a velvet sofa, you know you’re in date night heaven. Dip into a decadent Middle Eastern dining experience and indulge in a seven-course tasting menu with Kelly Oysters served with Chili Pearls and treats harvested straight from local farms, before choosing between Tiberias Snapper or Omega Lamb Tenderloin (tough choice!).

What’s more romantic than sailing off into the sunset in a cruise? Hop aboard The Admiral to experience a glamorous date against the backdrop of the city skyline this Valentine’s Day. Pick one of two slots (4 to 7 pm or 7.30 to 10.30 pm) for a night that starts off with a luxurious cruise down along the southern island and Singapore skyline right in time for sunset. Sushi Jiro – known for its authentic sushi and Omakase experiences –  will serve up a seven-course dinner aboard (think fresh sashimi, tender steak and more), once the yacht docks at Marina at Keppel Bay.

Nox Dine in the Dark

No time to glam up (thanks, kids!)? We’ve got the perfect solution: Nox Dine in the Dark! Your romantic three-course meal will be served in total darkness so no need to worry about that pimple you didn’t have time to cover, or the baby food on your skirt… Chow down (as messily as you like, no one is looking) on a decadent menu that includes a welcome drink, two amuse bouches, a three-course meal and decadent petit fours to round off the evening.

Feel like spreading the love this Valentine’s Day? Why not spend it at SPRMRKT Cambodia to support underprivileged young adults from the non-profit Cambodian hospitality school, EGBOK. Dine alfresco on a special six-course Cambodian inspired meal of delicious pumpkin Kor Ko Soup, Pan Seared Duck Breast and Chicken Wing Amok served with crispy purple potato croquette. The best part? 15% of the proceeds from both nights go directly to supporting the students of EGBOK.

Bayswater Kitchen

Fresh, quality seafood is at the heart of this relaxed seafront restaurant on Keppel Bay – perfect if you’re not feeling your skyscraper heels and LBD. L’Angelus

The French are renowned for romance, and you’ll find it in spades at the cosy and intimate French bistro L’Angelus. It’s a Club Street Institution with classy soft lighting, to-die-for steaks and oh-so-creamy potato gratin. The Summerhouse

If it’s a splurge you fancy, and somewhere that the kids would turn their nose up at every single thing on the menu, then The Summerhouse is it. Within your climate-controlled, air-conditioned dome, you’ll enjoy a four-course sharing menu with sumptuous dishes like Seared Scallop with Foie Gras, Grilled Sanchoku Wagyu Rump with King Oyster Mushroom and Creamy Polenta and Red Snapper with handpicked Sauteed Brazilian Spinach from the garden.

Hidden in the Ginger garden of Singapore Botanic Gardens, Halia’s peaceful setting (no kids!) makes it the perfect romantic setting for a special Valentine’s date. Dinner with a view? Yes, please, especially when it comes with a crisp glass of bubbly. If the exclusive tequila cocktail, My Funny Valentine hasn’t swept you off your feet, the five-course meal sure will. The Black Pearl Oyster with rich Scallop and Uni Risotto, melt-in-your-mouth sake-glazed Alaskan Cod, and the Wylarah Wagyu Strip with Kombu will leave you plenty satisfied.
