Snuggle down with your little piglets this Chinese New Year and celebrate the Year of the Pig by watching one of these adorable pig movies...
Oink, oink! It’s very nearly the Year of the Pig which has got us thinking about our favourite piggy characters of all time. Turns out there really are plenty of fun, family pig movies featuring our pink friends… Did your favourite make the list?
Moana
We’re cheating here a little as the star of Moana (pictured top) is not a pig, but we think we can all agree that Moana’s adventure mate – cute piglet, Pua – is definitely worthy of a mention. Prepare for demands for a pet pig from the kids (once they’ve finished warbling ‘How Far I’ll Go’ for the millionth time).
Charlotte’s Web
Whether it’s the original animated version featuring Debbie Reynolds from 1973 (way to make us feel old), or the 2006 CGI remake starring Dakota Fanning, this (curly) tale of an unlikely friendship is one of the most endearing stories ever. Personally, we prefer the golden oldie version (which we watched on VCR loop hundreds of times back in the day), but either way kids will fall in love with Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider time-and-time again. Definitely a movie that will have you rethinking that ham sandwich…
Babe
While you’ll find no flying pigs, you will find a talking pig in the heartwarming movie, Babe – a pig raised by sheepdogs! Kids will adore her quest to become the best sheep herder in the land, with a little help from her human friend, Farmer Hoggett.
Sing
X Factor meets Secret Life of Pets in the feel-good family movie, Sing, and Gunter the singing pig in his disco getups is our fave piggy character of all from this fun blockbuster.
Piglet’s Big Movie
AA Milne’s beloved Winnie the Poo character, Piglet, is the hero of the day in Piglet’s Big Movie when he comes up with a cunning plan to find his Hundred Acre Wood friends when they go missing. But if it’s a rainy day movie you’re after for the whole fam, the recent Disney blockbuster, Christopher Robin, is utterly charming, and well worth a watch.
The Lion King
We caught the live action version of The Lion King last year which definitely renewed our love for this classic Disney animation. And let’s face it Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the wart hog are the stars of the movie. We can’t wait for the CGI reboot coming this summer!
Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience
Keep your little piglets squealing with delight with Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience. 72 whole minutes of those scratchy oinking noises… Yay. Definitely one for die-hard Peppa fans only.
The Muppet Movie
Miss Piggy: the ultimate kick-ass female who totally knows what she wants in life. The Muppet Movie is older than some of us mums (it was made in 1979), but kids will still love joining Kermit the frog, Miss Piggy et al on a trek across America to find Hollywood success.
