On the lookout for a good concealer? Read on for the lowdown on the hottest formulas on the market to banish those eye bags and cover those dark circles...
When you’ve got little ones running around, a good night’s sleep probably seems like a distant memory (just like those size 4 jeans). Although we’ve shared a handy dandy guide on how to survive mumlife with very little sleep, showing up to work or date night looking like a racoon/panda doesn’t do much for a woman’s confidence. That’s why it’s important to arm yourself with a sleepless mum’s most important weapon – concealer! We’ve road tested some of the best on the market and found our ultimate fave…
The concealers
Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Concealer, $44.00, comes in 20 shades, Available at Sephora
Unlike your typical concealer, this baby comes in a huge bottle – which means there’s tons to go around. It comes in 20 versatile shades and can also be used for contouring and highlighting (if you’ve got time for that kind of thing). The best thing about this concealer is that it comes with a super cool doe-foot applicator which makes application a breeze. Makeup junkies will love the fact that it’s easy to layer and you can build this particular formula to look just like skin – definitely a plus in our books!
BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer, $46.00, Comes in 9 shades, Available at Sephora
If you’re looking for a lightweight concealer, this one’s your best bet. In fact, it’s so light that it barely feels like it’s there (just like your husband when you’re breastfeeding at night). And they don’t call it luminous for anything – it reflects light so it tames those dark circles, making it look like you’ve actually had a full night’s sleep. #illusion
Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer, $42, Comes in 30 shades, Available at Sephora
There’s a good reason this concealer is harder to get hold of – you can literally just swipe it under your eyes without any colour corrector and you’ll instantly cover your lack-of-sleep child-inflicted woes: dark under eye circles included. Unlike your typical full coverage concealer that eventually creases after a day of grimacing and grumbling at your kids, Shape Tape stays creamy all day which means no lines around the eyes – yay! It’s also especially great when you’re too time crunched to put on foundation – just don’t forget to blend!
Pretty Vulgar Under Cover Concealer, $41.00, Comes in 8 Skin Tone Correct shades, Available at Sephora
This concealer promises to brighten up your complexion – and it really does. Lightweight and velvety soft, it’s thin enough to be buildable, which is perfect if you’re trying to hide dark spots too. If you’re like us and love to keep your skin moisturised, Pretty Vulgar Under Cover has a multitude of vitamins and galactoarabinan (which is known to reduce fine lines.. yay!) to help you stay dewy throughout the day. It can also double as an eyeshadow primer – a godsend for when we’re trying to run out the door for date night with two minutes to get ready.
The verdict
Of course, nothing cures dark under eye circles better than a good night’s sleep and a pretty intense skin regime that requires several steps. Since we don’t really have time for any of that, perhaps it’s easier to stick to products that fix the problem without beating around the bush. Mums, you know you’re with us when we say easy-peasy’s the name of the game! But for now you’ll find us stock piling our fave concealer of the lot – drum roll please – Tarte Shape Tape!
