Beat the heat and head to the cinema with your kids to catch these blockbuster hits: Jurassic World, Minions, Ant-Man, Pixels, and Inside Out
As much as the summer holidays are perfect for hitting the beach and receiving a good dose of Vit D, we know there are times when you literally just want to chill out with the kids. Beat the heat and take your children to the movies, we say. While it is a simple day out, a movie date never fails to bring a smile to a little one’s face. Besides, your kids will be so engrossed with the movie, you won’t even need to keep an eye of them! Yes, that’s two solid hours of ‘me time’ while still hanging out with the children. Win-win situation? Deffo!
So here’s the HoneyKids guide to the hottest family friendly flicks opening this summer:
Doraemon: Nobita and the Space Heroes
Everyone’s favourite Japanese cat is back, and this time he’s travelling to space to fight against evil aliens. The anime movie is in Japanese though; so be sure your tyke is able to read subtitles easily lest you end up whispering the entire show to them.

Pitch Perfect 2
If your kids are fans of Glee, they’ll love Pitch Perfect 2. This sequel doesn’t require you to have seen the first flick, but we urge you to do so anyway – it’s that good! With great music and tons of hilarious moments, you and your kids will leave the theatre grinning from ear to ear, singing at the top of your lungs.

Jurassic World
Our youth was filled with Indiana Jones, Star Wars and, of course, Jurassic Park. Introduce your kid to one of your favourite childhood movies with the series’ latest instalment: Jurassic Park is now a theme park and things get of control when their genetically engineered beasts, led by a particularly deadly hybrid dinosaur, go on a massive rampage.
Out in theatres 11 June 2015
Minions
The Minions, first made famous in Despicable Me, are back and they are cuter than ever. Minions tells the story of three of these loveable creatures – single-celled yellow organisms that have been causing trouble since the dawn of time – and their first encounter with a super-evil villain known as Scarlett Overdose.

Barely Lethal
Why watch Barley Lethal? For us, it’s because of actress Jessica Alba – mum and founder of organic baby products e-retailer, Honest – we can’t wait till they ship to Singapore! Why the kids will love it? It’s about a teenage special ops agent who runs away to live a normal life, only to find out it’s not as easy as it seems. Teenagers just can’t get a break.
Out in theatres 18 June 2015
Ant-Man
Another Marvel comic character is brought to life on the big screen: Ant-Man is a thief with a special suit that allows him to shrink in size and increase in power, but now he has to embrace his inner hero. This is one action-packed blockbuster kids will enjoy, and with Paul Rudd starring as Ant-Man himself, it’s likely to be a hit with mums, too. Book early if you plan to catch the movie within the first two weeks of its release!
Out in theatres 16 July 2015
Fantastic Four
Just putting it out there: the 2005 cinematic interpretation of the Fantastic Four was a tad disappointing. Thankfully, this reboot of the franchise – about four outsiders who visit an alternate universe and transform into superheroes Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing – seems to be a different story. And if it isn’t, at least your little ones will still enjoy the action.
Out in theatres 6 August 2015
Pixels
Arcade games (think Pac-Man, Tetris and Space Invaders) are brought to life by aliens in a plot to attack Earth. Our only hope is a team of old-school gamers and a military specialist – yikes! This side-splitting film will definitely be a hit with video gaming youngsters and big kids alike. We’re thinking dad-and-kids movie date!
Out in theatres 13 August 2015
Inside Out
Based on the trailer, we are pretty sure Inside Out (pictured top) will be a stellar movie – especially since it was created by the genius team at Disney Pixar, who have never disappointed us! This animated fantasy-comedy film follows Riley – a usually happy 11-year-old Midwestern girl who was forced to move to San Francisco – and Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust: five of Riley’s comical emotions.
Out in theatres 20 August 2015
