Entering its third year, Baker X embarks on a thrilling new chapter with a thematic line-up, starting with the launch of “Around the World in Bakes and Sweets” in the second half of 2024. From Japanese confections to French pastries with a twist, four home bakers — Love For Wagashi, Pastry Haven by Helen, Pastories, and Cassia Canelés — will showcase a diversity of sweet treats from across the globe.
Kicking off the “Around the World in Bakes and Sweets” line-up is Love For Wagashi, operating from 2 June to 18 August 2024. Dionne Ho, the founder of the home-based confectionery, discovered Japanese nerikiri wagashi in 2020. Struck with a desire to recreate these sweets in Singapore, where they could not be found, she dedicated herself to months of experimentation and practice in the kitchen. Her unwavering passion led to the birth of Love For Wagashi in early 2021. Using only the finest ingredients, Dionne strives to introduce these beautiful, handcrafted treats to the local audience.
Customers can look forward to Dionne’s bestselling nerikiri (from $7 onwards), available in a rotating selection of seasonal designs. Crowd favourites include delicious daifuku ($5 to $8), refreshingly sweet yuzu sake anmitsu ($8.50 and $6.50 for the non-alcoholic version), and dango ($5.80) in two variations — kinako and matcha.
In addition, Love For Wagashi introduces new treats such as the Hakoniwa (from $12 onwards) and new matcha-flavoured desserts made with premium-grade matcha sourced directly from Kyoto and Mie prefectures – matcha daifuku ($6), matcha parfait ($12), and matcha anmitsu ($8).
Retailing exclusively for dine-in at Baker X is the Raindrop Cake ($6), a treat not to be missed. This crystal-clear, jelly-like dessert is served with kinako and kuromitsu (Japanese black sugar syrup).
