If you believe in the power of play, then Little Tykes is the perfect drop-off programme for your toddler..
Integrated International School (IIS) is proud to announce Little Tykes, its brand new drop-off toddler programme with the refreshing philosophy of letting kids simply be kids. The Reggio Emilia inspired programme was adopted by IIS’s very own founder Dr Vanessa von Auer, who is a practicing child psychologist. Little Tykes celebrates the individuality of each child through creative child-led play and child-centric learning, which is known to boost social and cognitive confidence in the youngest of learners (we’ve covered the benefits of creative play here).
Dr. Vanessa says, “The IIS team lives and breathes our mantra of Redefining Success, where we recognise and support multiple intelligences, so it was only natural for us to design Little Tykes as a space for kids to feel free to express themselves. We live in a world where individuality is more important than ever before and Little Tykes gets it. We encourage our kids to break the mould – their interests drive our programme.” Boasting a diverse student body from 25 different countries (and counting), children at IIS learn as much from each other as they do from their teachers.
A day in the life of a Little Tykes toddler
A morning in the life of a Little Tykes toddler might include giggles with friends in an enchanted teepee, building imaginary cities in the sensational sandpit, all the while being encouraged to be a 21st century learner through experiences, interactions and play.
Now is probably the time to give a big shout out to the super cool Ocean Snoezelen sensory room, a place where your child is encouraged to let his or her imagination run wild. You’ve got to see it to believe it and we’re in love!
From daily drop-off at 8.30am to pick up at 12.30pm and 3pm, toddlers learn through an exploratory multi-sensorial approach using art, play, music, dance, drama, and environmental activities in both indoor and outdoor play spaces. On top of that, they’ll also receive a high-quality bilingual immersion with a dedicated Mandarin Chinese teacher. To enhance the home away from home feel, Little Tykes is based out of IIS’s bright new campus in Clementi, in a loving, fun, enriching and safe play atelier.
Here’s how a typical day at Little Tykes will look for your wee one:
8:30am-9am: Drop-off and free play
9am: Outdoor play (sand, sensory, water, group activities)
9:45am: Morning snack
10am: Storytelling, explorative learning
11:10am: Chinese
11:45: Lunch
12:15pm: Goodbye routine for morning children
12:30pm: School’s out! Parents pick up morning children
12:45pm: Milk and nap. If you’d like your child to skip their nap other activities will be built in during this time.
2:30pm: ‘Provocations stations’ – Reggio-Emilia-inspired displays meant to provoke and expand on thoughts, discussions, questions, interests, creativity and ideas.
2:45pm: Settling out routine
3pm: School’s out! Parents pick up children
