Curious to know what learning is like for the kids at Singapore American School’s Early Learning Center? Here’s a sneak peek...
There’s a reason why our kids always have a million questions for us: they’re curious little creatures who love to explore and investigate. Which is why the Early Learning Center at Singapore American School is perfect for young eager learners. It’s a place filled with children and teachers working together to build relationships, to wonder, to discover and to learn – kind of makes us wish we were kids ourselves!
And this school goes beyond cool when it comes to fun learning activities for the young learners. Curious to find out where all our rubbish goes, the students from the Early Learning Center at Singapore American School began a research project and learned about recycling. After collecting more than 200 plastic forks and spoons in just three weeks, students prepared a persuasive presentation for the high school cafeteria manager and convinced him to offer metal forks and spoons instead to the children in the Early Learning Center. The good work didn’t stop there, with word spreading to other parts of the school. Thumbs up, kids!
Their enthusiasm for environmental awareness didn’t go unnoticed. The children were able to expand their awesome efforts by gathering recyclable materials, composting organic food waste and making their own paper. All super-important ideas by environmentally conscious kids! The best part is that the drive for sustainability didn’t stop in the school cafeteria. Students took the message home to their parents, grandparents and siblings, plus shared their learning with children and teachers in other parts of the school.

And that’s just one example of the kind of projects the kids at Singapore American School are up to. Topics are inspired by the students’ interests and used to bring purposeful and positive change to their wider community and environment. There’s no doubt that the days are filled with enjoyable learning experiences that students can bring home every day!
A place of discovery
SAS’s Reggio Emilia-inspired approach allows kids to connect, explore and relate through their own interests. They work independently and in small groups, visit hands-on exploration stations, get two daily outdoor play times and take field trips throughout the campus. And for curious kids, it’s perfect. Through this program, SAS is able to encourage its students to observe the world and inspires them to feel a sense of wonder for everything in it. And you can see it in the way the children become more adventurous in what they are willing to try out!
But don’t just take it from us. Why not experience the Early Learning Center at SAS for yourself by booking a tour?
