The British Council is bringing the sweetest sheep to town
A little lamb in Singapore is a whole lot of luxury. But now that need not be the case… we’ve just caught wind that 2 sheep (that you will want to keep, not eat) are coming to Singapore and they’re set to transform how little ones learn English.
The clever people at British Council woolled cottoned on to the fact that, Shaun the Sheep and his cousin Timmy, of Timmy Time, were already influencing kids with their antics and so they’ve put them to good use as your child’s constant companions in a wonderful new English programme: Learning Time With Shaun and Timmy.
Commencing in 2015, this exclusively-themed and play-based course is taught once a week (by expert educators, not sheep) across the year for children in Nursery 1, Nursery 2 and Kindergarten 1. With Shaun and Timmy as guides through rhythm, rhyme and dramatic play activities, children will find that developing their listening, pronunciation and communication skills is a whole lot of fun.
Within a nurturing environment, kids will have the opportunity to explore a highly tailored, multi-sensory world alongside their new woolly friends. A teacher-led component will gently encourage little ones to follow their imagination, and not the flock, to make their own language discoveries and connections. And those that might feel a little sheepish when it comes to communicating can simply follow Shaun and Timmy’s lead as they embark on playing, acting, reading and writing activities.
Don’t be surprised if you hear a bleat peep, even from shy little lambs, when it’s time to go home. Supported by puppets, digital resources and interactive books, children will be thoroughly engaged in these wonderful classes. There are lots of materials available so that Learning Time With Shaun and Timmy can continue at home too.
