We talked to mum-to-be Tey Siang Fang to learn more about her business with a difference, Neverneverland.
Here at HoneyKids, we’re always on the lookout for ways to make your life as a parent easier on the Little Red Dot. And that includes sharing awesome stories of amazing mums who motivate us to become better everyday… like Tey Siang Fang, founder of the toy company, Neverneverland! Find out more about this inspirational mum-to-be who not only runs her own toy company in Singapore, but creates opportunities to give back to the community, too!
The journey to becoming a mumpreneur
Siang Fang started her career as an HR professional who specialised in learning and development in the healthcare sector (including KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH)). But, as rewarding as it was after more than a decade in the industry, she decided to leave her full-time job to focus on her pregnancy. Her next step? Becoming a successful entrepreneur! Armed with a degree in business, Siang Fang started her first online business, MadebyFang, and sold knitted products handcrafted by herself.
Soon after, she had another business idea. Inspired by her ex-boss’s daughter who sold clay-made earrings on Instagram, she decided to start Neverneverland, a toy company that hopes to inspire children to play and learn at the same time…
Neverneverland: more than just a business
So, what is Neverneverland all about? Well, Siang Fang believes that every child should be able to learn and play without boundaries. And, besides inspiring children to develop themselves through the simple act of playing, she also believes in the importance of giving back to the community. As someone who had undergone health issues herself back in 2018, Siang Fang wanted to use her new business to raise funds for paediatric patients who are undergoing expensive medical treatments – a commendable act, we think!
So how did she do it? Well, Siang Fang decided to sell tote bags designed by her, with two-thirds of the proceeds going towards a collaborative fundraiser for patients in need at KKH. And, she has managed to raise $756 from the proceeds alone. Nicely done!
After a successful fundraiser, Siang Fang is now looking towards her next venture: starting a toy library where underprivileged kids can play with wooden toys before deciding to purchase them. Not only are these toys high-quality and environmentally-friendly, they also help kids build their motor-sensory skills, and refine their fine-motor skills, too. Plus, she also plans to start another fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Foundation Singapore from 1 to 30 November 2020, too.
