Mini golf, a bizarre trip into Chinese culture and a good old fashioned dose of art are on the radar this week…
With the Chinese New Year celebrations wrapping up, it might feel as if all the fun to be had with the kiddos is over for now. Wrong! Our troop of mini-reporters have been out and about trying these cool activities on your behalf…
1. Hit the movies
We do love an easy date at the cinema with the kiddos (free aircon and relative peace and quiet for a few hours…woohoo!), and with school holidays almost upon us (yep, again!), there are lots of great blockbusters hitting the silver screen. We caught a preview of Peter Rabbit this weekend and we agree that it’s a definite must-see for all little bunnies.
2. Get arty with the kids
It’s a great parenting moment when we stumble across something new and fun for the kiddos.Which is what happened when a mundane supermarket shop at Parkway Parade turned into a crafty hour with the little ones. Back to Basics is a drop-in art studio where activities including lolly stick construction, hama bead creations, pottery painting and playdough art are on the menu!
3. Boost your knowledge of the Chinese culture
With CNY drawing to a close, we decided to break out the cheongsams and Mandarin collars one last time, and go on an adventure into Chinese culture. Haw Par Villa – with its colourful characters and oodles of history – was at its freaky, fun and downright weird best, and we had a blast.
4. Try a new sport (but prepare to be beaten by the kids)
We’re raising our daughters to never, EVER let anyone stop them doing something because they are girls. We’re encouraging feminism and motivating our little ladies to take up all kinds of sports (but still loving the odd mani-pedi date with them). Ahead of this weekend’s exciting HSBC Women’s World Championship golf competition in Singapore, we took our girls (and boys!) for a round of mini golf at Champions Golf. They won. We haven’t yet lived it down.
5. Dine in peace while the kids are kept busy
We took a leaf out of our own kid-friendly dining guide and spent a happy Sunday afternoon at Cafe Melba with the gang. The small people were happy running amok on a wide open field, in between slices of pizza and full-on bouncy castle acrobatics, while us grown ups actually got to drink a whole coffee without being hounded disturbed. The perfect way to wrap up the weekend.
