More than just your average science fair
When you hear the words ‘science fair’, you’re probably thinking kids competing for the best science projects or experiments by kids gone awry. Sure, there’ll be some of that (because science is fun like that) but there’ll also be an awesome Global Bazaar (woo hoo: shopping!) selling everything from quirky gifts to artisan clothing and jewellery, as well as a host of traditional carnival rides, live music and refreshments! Add relaxing foot and shoulder massages from the Singapore Association of the visually handicapped for parents to indulge in while the kids are busy, and you’ve got yourself the perfect day out.
What is STEAM?
We’ve been going on about STEAM, but explained in easy terms it’s a super popular interdisciplinary teaching approach that stands for Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship (or Engineering), Arts and Math!
It’s a way for kids to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to the workplace, it’s great for helping them hone their problem-solving skills and it encourages collaboration, research and critical thinking skills at the same time. At CIS, STEAM integration starts as early as pre-kindergarten and continues for all kids through to Grade 12. Learners get to tinker in cool makerspace rooms filled with state-of-the-art equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters, all designed to encourage young ones to experiment, build and invent!
Want to learn more about the STEAM programme at CIS? Feel free to tap the shoulder of any of the members of the CIS Senior Leadership Team. They’ll be there to answer any questions! And, just in case you’re interested, they’ll be able give you a personal tour of the campus too!
