Family friendly hotels in Maldives
If you think that the Maldives is exclusively for honeymooners, think again! Our luxury travel partners, Lightfoot Travel, give us the deets for family friendly Maldives.Though generally thought of as a romantic destination, this island nation dotted across the Indian Ocean has tons of options for families looking for a luxurious holiday. Welcome to the family friendly Maldives! In these hotels, children are treated like royalty, and you won’t be getting any stink eye from other parents tired of kids running around. Quite the contrary! Children are expected to run, splash around, and have a great time. All the properties we have chosen offer baby-sitting services as well as baby-friendly facilities (cots, playpens, bottle sterilisers, etc.), and a little something extra to make your stay that much more hassle-free.
Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa
The hotel’s ‘Cool Zone’ welcomes children aged four to twelve for a fun-filled day of activities: treasure hunts on the island, discovering the jungle of Villingili and its wildlife, cooking lessons, crab hunting and racing, learning about the underwater world, arts and crafts sessions… Being bored is definitely a challenge at Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa. Families of all ages and sizes will be pleased to know there’s a room type to suit each of you, and a special kids menu that will delight their taste buds. One&Only Reethi Rah
Family-friendly doesn’t even begin to describe One&Only Reethi Rah. Its proximity to Male make it an easy journey for families with babies or younger children. Once on the property, children of all ages (from toddlers to teenagers) will be overwhelmed by all the activities on offer: tennis and swimming lessons, sushi-making, and lifeguard training. Your kids will also love the shark safaris, hand line fishing excursions and turtle adventures. Children and infant meals are also on their own special menu, no need to worry about bringing too much formula! To make the experience even more memorable, kids can make friends of their own age group – OneTribe is for 9-11 year olds while KidsOnly is for 4-9 year olds (2 and 3 year olds are welcome, but must be accompanied by a nanny.)
Kanuhura
On the eastern rim of Lhaviyani Atoll lies Kanuhura, 40 minutes by seaplane from Male International Airport. The 100 luxury villa complex is located close to one of the best diving sites in the world. The property’s kid’s club (for children ages 4 – 11) will entertain your youngsters should mom and dad need some alone time. In addition to a sand-filled playground, shallow swimming pool and highly dedicated staff, the hotel has all the equipment you need (baby cots, high chairs, sterilizers and more).
Kids receive a welcome gift pack and a farewell present as a souvenir of their stay at Kanuhura – but we won’t tell you what’s inside so as to not ruin the surprise!
Six Senses Laamu
Is going to the cinema not fun enough for your kids? They will soon change their tune once they’ve experienced Six Senses Laamu’s Jungle Cinema: a big screen located in the wilderness that takes watching “The Lion King” to a whole new level! They’ll enjoy it even more with the friends they’ll make at the children’s club, The Den, which has an array of activities and games (indoor and outdoor games, treasure hunting, and cooking classes). Your kids will also be spending A LOT of time in the hotel’s chocolate and ice cream rooms – an endless flow of chocolate and ice cream all day, every day? Any kid’s dream come true!
Ananthara Dhigu Resort & Spa
The hotel’s Kids Club shaped as a Dhoni, a traditional Maldivian boat, will have kids dreaming of becoming pirates! The activities offered are numerous, but we particularly like the coral nursery visit with a Marine Biologist – fun and instructive. The next Jacques Costeau might just find his calling during one of these visits! Kids here even have a special spa treatment just for them! Perfect for donning the child-size bathrobes that are available in the rooms – so cute!
Four Seasons Landaa Girravaru
Here’s a hotel kids (and parents) will have a hard time leaving! Four Seasons Landaa Girravaru’s Kuda Veela Kid’s Club has your typical ‘wear them out so they fall asleep instantly’ activities, but also educational ones. Children can build their own coral reef and feed baby clownfish, enabling them to understand the importance of preserving our environment. Kids receive welcome amenities and complimentary toiletries. Those extra-cautious parents who have kids that are on the clumsy side will be happy to know that the hotel can provide items to childproof your room.
