Commemorate Singapore’s 57th birthday this National Day by celebrating with Da Paolo, a homegrown brand now led by the second generation who continues a 33-year family legacy as it grows with the nation.
Specially created for the occasion, Da Paolo’s well-loved Gula Melaka Coconut Pandan Bun ($5.50 each) is back by popular demand. Now offered in individual portions, the buns, which are handmade with a lamination method are inspired by the iconic flavours from some of Singapore’s most popular desserts. Made with a sweet enriched sourdough for a softer crust, the buns see layers of pandan-infused dough, spread with desiccated coconut and gula melaka filling, then drizzled over with gula melaka and pandan leaves reduction and topped with shredded coconut and dusting of icing sugar.
For a day or night of merrymaking, head down to Da Paolo Dempsey Restaurant & Bar and imbibe the local-themed concoctions. Da Paolo has dreamt up the Slushy Sling ($24++), a refreshing boozy ice-blended rendition of the local Singapore Sling. Proudly featuring Brass Lion Singapore Dry Gin from Singapore’s very own distillery, the drink consists of smooth Chambord black raspberry liqueur, Ferrand Dry Curaçao, freshly squeezed grapefruit and yuzu juice, and raspberry puree. For teetotallers, the 57th Pandan Street ($18++) is a velvety and zesty mocktail teeming with the familiar flavours of local ingredients such as lemongrass, ginger and pandan.
Available at Da Paolo Pizza Bar, the Chicken, Pesto & Sundried Tomatoes Pizza ($33++) is a delicious tribute to National Day. The toothsome, red and white stone-baked pizza, is topped with house-made pesto, mozzarella cheese, tender steam-baked mixed herbs chicken breast, sweet cherry tomatoes and Italian sun-dried tomatoes.
*Da Paolo’s National Day highlights are available for the month of August. The Gula Melaka Coconut Buns are available from Fridays to Sundays only and on 9 August (Tues), subject to availability.
