The Activities programme is divided into three core segments: Arts, Club Sports and Leisure and Learning, providing students with an opportunity to develop particular passions and talents outside regular school hours.

Activities provide students with the opportunity to connect with like-minded CIS friends from across different age groups, and, at times, with friends from other schools. Opportunities are wide in scope, and because of the demands made on their time, students learn about the concept of commitment and time management.

Activities encourage in students an understanding of their peers, while developing skills that facilitate success in group or team environments. By trying out new things, students have an opportunity to be risk-takers, communicators and knowledgeable.

Activities, run by external providers who are leaders in their field, take place after school and on weekends in fixed time slots. They are offered in three seasons across the school year, and students sign up via an online registration system. Competitive sports, offered under the ACSIS league, also run year round.

    Independent living skills
Direct teaching strategies are used in implementing the program goals for life skills for verbal and visual cues and prompts, adult modelling, peer modelling and small group instruction and discussion during scheduled life skills classes and embedded learning activities. The school recognizes that living skills taught and practiced at school are generalized on campus and in the community using verbal and visual cues and prompts, adult modelling and peer modelling. This is an integral component of the Visual and Performing Arts Program, and includes the following educational objectives encompassing 2 main learning areas:

The house – the independent living house provides a ‘real life’ environment where students can learn and practice a variety of independent living skills.
Grooming- students learn to shower, dress and manage personal hygiene.
Meals- students learn how to prepare a basic meal from the beginning to the final cooked meal, developing a shopping list, budgeting, purchasing goods and following simple recipes to prepare the meals.

Domestic skills- students learn how to carry out simple household duties such as vacuuming, washing clothes/dishes, mopping, making beds, wiping tables/benches, dusting, ironing etc.

Community awareness- students access a wide range of facilities within their local area and develop skills in travel.

Travel training – students learn road safety, pedestrian skills and how to travel on public transport appropriately.

Community access- students learn how to interact with others in their environment through placing orders, making requests, purchasing goods. Furthermore, students learn how to access facilities and what they are required to do in order to take part in specific community based activities.

From the rhythm of dance and music, to the grit of soccer and rock climbing, and intra-and inter-school competitions, there are ample opportunities for students to develop talent, share passions and even initiate their own activities. In total there are more than 50 activities on offer each week.
The school currently supports 40 different service activities, including local community events and overseas projects that provide opportunities to engage with various communities. These activities promote an appreciation of the world, develop skills and understanding that are driven by experience, and create significant opportunities for personal development. The experience of outdoor education provides opportunities to learn through experience and develop resilience, determination and resolve. Self-discipline and team work are challenged during these residential activities where students step out of their comfort zones and support others around them. Students gain confidence in their own abilities, discover innovative ways to overcome obstacles, and turn challenges into positive life experiences. Our Grade 7, 8, 9 students participate in week-long expeditions overseas, while Grade 11 students plan and implement the milestone tradition of Challenge Week, where they travel to another country to serve a charity of their choice as a self-organised group. Other educational trips and personal development programmes - like the National Youth Achievement Award - are encouraged, challenging students' learning as far as they are willing to go.
