CNY shopping in Singapore: What we really want to buy to celebrate Chinese New Year

Because it's not Chinese New Year at all without the right earrings and cushions...

It’s Chinese New Year! We’re all on board for the CNY fun events for kids, eating up a storm and dressing up for the occasion (check out our picks of the coolest CNY outfits for kids.) For the uninitiated, Chinese New Year celebrations involve quite a bit of prep, and that means sprucing up the home and your wardrobe. We’re taking this as our cue to indulge in a bit of festive shopping, of course. Here are our red huat picks…

Local label Onlewo is winning us over with its beautiful textiles, wallpaper and homewares featuring prints inspired by Singapore scenes. This ‘Bountiful’ cushion (pictured top), with its mesmerising kueh design, ticks all the boxes for modern CNY style. We’ll love it all year round, of course. Linen-cotton with insert, 30cmx42cm, $48. Available at Onlewo’s studio at 129 Jalan Besar S208847.

Tassel ear jackets by Wabi Sabi

Head turning tassels: ear jackets by local jewellery designer, Wabi Sabi.

We’re in love with these Tassel Ear Jackets by Wabi Sabi – they click into your regular stud earrings to add instant kapow to your outfit. Confession: we’ve already snapped up this exact same pair, and at $65 a pop we think they’re a steal.

Singapore trading post pineapples CNY buys HoneyKids Asia

We’re all for pineapples permanently on display – these beauties are from Singapore Trading Post!

Forget the paper pineapples: this is the CNY fruit that keeps on giving. Singapore Trading Post brass pineapple candy jars, from $150.

Matter Mobi Pomegranate CNY buys HoneyKids Asia

Matter Sideswept Dhoti pant in Mobi Pomegranate – check out the coordinating threads for your kid, while you’re at it.

It’s no secret we love local ethical fashion label Matter Prints – you might have spotted the #mattermini range in our roundup of the coolest CNY outfits for kids. We’ll take these trousers for ourselves too – they are in auspicious red, after all. Sideswept Dhoti in Mobi Pomegranate, currently on sale at $223.

Sammy Eve is adding some CNY colour to our kids’ bedrooms with these fun prints

If the kids’ bedrooms need a little brightening with a print or two, we’ve been long swooning over the Chinese zodiac personalised picks from Sammy Eve.  Pick up a Year of the Dog print from $65 – paw-fect for bubbas born this year!

Turns out you don’t need a house to own a little garden… We’re loving Terrarium SG’s mini patches of green.

If you don’t have a garden, then a terrarium makes a small and pretty alternative. The lovely CNY Blessing range at Terrarium SG is a must for any green-fingered wannabes! Snap one up quick though – they’re currently on sale at $48 each!
