Because it's not Chinese New Year at all without the right earrings and cushions...
It’s Chinese New Year! We’re all on board for the CNY fun events for kids, eating up a storm and dressing up for the occasion (check out our picks of the coolest CNY outfits for kids.) For the uninitiated, Chinese New Year celebrations involve quite a bit of prep, and that means sprucing up the home and wardrobes. We’re taking this as our cue to indulge in a bit of festive shopping, so here’s our red huat picks…
We’re kicking off our buys with a limited edition artisanal barbecued pork: the delicious fuel that will keep us going not just for the rest of our shopping spree, but all through the Lunar New Year celebrations. We’re loving the little squares of meaty heaven from Shop House by Shangri-La at $70 per 600 grams.
Local label Onlewo is winning us over with its beautiful textiles, wallpaper and homewares featuring prints inspired by Singapore scenes. The ‘Bountiful’ cushion (pictured top), with its gorgeous kueh design, ticks all the boxes for modern CNY style. We’ll love it all year round, of course, and at $48 per cushion, we may just snap up a few.
So much swoon for these Tassel Ear Jackets by Wabi Sabi – they click into your regular stud earrings to add instant kapow to your outfit. Confession: we’ve already snapped up this exact same pair, and at $65 a pop we think they’re a steal.
Forget the paper pineapples: this is the CNY fruit that keeps on giving. Singapore Trading Post brass pineapple candy jars, from $150, are really livening up our festive decor.
It’s no secret we love local ethical fashion label Matter Prints – you might have spotted the #mattermini range in our roundup of the coolest CNY outfits for kids. We’ll take these trousers for ourselves too – they are in auspicious red, after all. The Sideswept Dhoti in Mobi Pomegranate is currently on sale at $223.
While we’ve not quite gotten around to creating fengshui perfection in our homes yet, we’re currently coveting these beautiful Silver Mystical Cuff Bracelets (in his and hers versions at $398 each) by Matrix Fengshui Blessings, available through Gifts Less Ordinary.
There’s more to Ikea than meatballs and tupperware: this year’s Chinese New Year collection is red hot. We’re already toting our Solglimtar bag at just $6.90 to stash all our CNY buys (and that tupperware) in.
