It’s never too early to start thinking about how to NOT spend Christmas Day slaving over a hot stove and being faced with a mountain of washing up, so we’re already turning our minds to the best festive feasts for families in Singapore. You know, the ones where we can glam up and get in a yuletide mood while the kids have a blast in the supervised on-site playroom! And as we’re no strangers to the epic Singapore Sunday brunch scene (all done in the name of research, of course) we’ve handpicked our fave Christmas menus from full five-star seafood feasts to roast turkey shindigs (chili crab turkey anyone?), as well as the more relaxed affairs. The Salon, Hotel Fort Canning
Hotel Fort Canning is topping last year’s chili crab turkey with a satay roast turkey as the centrepiece of its Christmas buffets. Looks like we’re looking at another turkey dinner winner, folks! The Salon (pictured top) will also be serving up smoky hunks of Roasted Herb-crusted Milk-fed Lamb Chumps, Slow Glazed Maple Honey Mustard Gammon Ham, and of course, log cakes, stollen and Cinnamon-spiced Pumpkin Tarts as part of the buffet. But the true highlight is definitely Christmas Day Brunch at HFC Grand Marquee where in addition to a fab feast, there’ll be tons of activities to keep the kids entertained including a bouncy castle, face painting, art and craft, cupcake decorating, and a dedicated play zone complete with movie screenings, toys and slides. Santa Claus will even be making the rounds ahead of schedule to hand out festive treats!

Celebrate Christmas with a view at Alley on 25. Whet your appetite with a fab view of the bay while you dine on Prime Rib Roast Beef, Slow-Roasted Lamb Shoulder, Sustainable Seafood Bouillabaisse and go back for seconds (or thirds) of sustainable seafood. To wash down the scrumptious meal, why not opt for free-flow egg nog, mulled wine and delamotte champagne, while the kids get hopped up on desserts like Christmas pudding and the seasonal-special Christmas Mint Pandan Chiffon Cake complete with a mint mousse.

One-Ninety Restaurant, Four Seasons Hotel
If the full buffet is looking a little heavy, then semi-buffet is sooo the way to go if you love a top-notch spread, but don’t want to massively over indulge on your mains. We recently tried the newly revamped menu (and kids’ play room!) ourselves and it got a resounding thumbs up from the whole fam for food quality, choice and service. These guys could be the nicest restaurant and playroom staff in town. Its special festive offerings look set to impress with highlights including oven-roasted organic turkey with chestnut stuffing, a buffet spread of imported cheeses from France and Italy, and more delish appetizers than you can shake a stick at. Leave room for the dessert table mind: with delights such as mango cheesecake, red velvet and hazelnut royaltine cake, German stollen and festive fruit cake at the dessert table, you’re going to want to try it all! All of this while the kids are supervised in a room stuffed with toys, dressup, crafts, movie-screening and a bouncy castle. Win, win.

The Carvery, Park Hotel Alexandra
The Carvery’s Forest Feast really is bringing the magic this Christmas with its earthy delights. We tried the spread on your behalf (you’re welcome!) and here’s what you’ve got to look forward to in this sumptuous line-up: roasted pork knuckle, whiskey-aged US Angus beef prime ribs, spit-roasted chicken with truffle, beef wellington and a trad roasted tom turkey. We’ll be honest, we can’t pick faves, but we will give a shout-out to the creamy purple mashed potato and raspberry and lychee trifle. Top it all off with a glass (or two) of prosecco and the angelic sounds of Christmas carollers and the whole fam will be jolly for sure.

Goodwood Park Hotel
Make this Christmas a memorable one by celebrating the festivities in the iconic heritage hotel that is Goodwood Park. Gordon Grill is laying on both a five-course set menu of festive fare or a full-on-loosen-your-pant-buttons international buffet complete with champers on Xmas Day (the dessert trolley: oh my!). Or if top throttle gluttony is not your thing, then try the more casual Coffee Lounge for a Christmas Day Dinner with a local flavour twist. New gourmet offerings this year (on top of the traditional Christmas dinners) include the Cantonese-inspired soy-braised turkey and breaded turkey rillettes ‘Cheong Fun’ in true Chinese takeaway-style. Whatever you plump for, come hungry – we gave this one a try and literally had to be rolled home such was the magnificent feast.

Conrad Centennial Singapore
From 1 December 2018, the Conrad Centennial Singapore is putting on quite the spread: King Crab Salad, whole roast turkey, oven roasted US prime ribs and Indonesian style crab rendang along with other festive dishes at Oscar’s, Xmas-themed tea sets at the Lobby Lounge, and an Oriental Christmas from the a la carte buffet at Golden Peony. Trot on over for Christmas for freshly grilled festive meat as well as lots of jolly fun happening in the Kids Christmas Corner where your little elves will be kept happy (while you quietly sip that G&T). Prices vary for Christmas eve, Christmas day, brunch, lunch and dinner.

For a cosy Christmas with a festive menu favouring a less traditional route, head over to Park Hotel Clarke Quay, where Porta is serving up sous vide scallops and French onion soup with cheese toast sprinkled with avruga caviar. And that’s just for starters! Next up is a choice between the roasted beef brisket with red wine sauce, baked golden Atlantic Halibut confit with lemon butter sauce. Come hungry for this gastro feast! Or pop by the Cocobolo at the pool for a sunset-soaked dinner of turkey, lamb rack, pork belly and seafood. Hot tip: Try Porta’s take on a Singapore Sling – it’s deliciously refreshing (and rather easy to drink!).

Keen to try something different this Christmas? The Festive Feast at Ellenborough Market Café has all the staples from Traditional Country Pâté, Honey Glazed Bone-In Champagne Ham with Port Wine Sauce and braised short beef ribs. But its turkey this season is Asian-inspired and seasoned with a fragrant spicy “Kam Heong” sauce prepared with dried shrimps, curry powder, shallots and garlic. To sweeten the deal, fill up on ivory valrhona yule log with pandan roulade, white sesame mousse and azuki red bean for dessert!

Courtyard is rolling out a real array of yuletide goodies this December with a semi-buffet happening all December. Get your Christmas meal before the rush with highlights like Pan-fried Duck Breast with Sour Cherry Sauce, Seabass Papillote with Potato and Green Peas along with Grilled Lamb Cutlets. You’ll still have delicious desserts like Chocolate Fudge Log Cake, Cinnamon and Apple Crumble and Pumpkin Pie to round off the meal. Or book early for the Christmas meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, featuring hearty carvings of Classic Roasted Whole Turkey with Chestnut Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce, Roasted Lamb Leg with Onion Jus and Asian-twists like Grilled Seabass in Sambal Sauce. We’re happy to report that we ate and enjoyed every single morsel already.

Blue Jasmine, Park Hotel Farrer Park
We’re going Thai this Christmas at Blue Jasmine! The buffet is stocked with an assortment of seafood on ice including fresh prawn and black mussels, Tom Yum Mushroom and Thai Fish Cakes Sugarcane Prawns and fragrant Deep-Fried Pandan Chicken. Alongside the iconic Southern Thai Massaman red chicken curry and Blue Jasmine’s signature fried squid will be Christmas classics like roast turkey and roast beef, marinated Esarn style and served with a house-made smoked chili sauce and glutinous rice. Dessert will be assorted Nyonya Kuehs, Blue Jasmine’s Thai Chendol topped with jackfruit, fresh berries, and house-made red rubies plus the classic Christmas log cake. That’s what we call Christmas spice and everything nice!

If you’re not one of the lucky ducks jetting off to a German Xmas market this year, you can still celebrate Christmas the German way with Brotzeit’s new Christmas menu. Grab a sharing platter for you and the fam with treats like turkey schnitzel stuffed with raclette cheese, venison and veal sausages and boney-baked Christmas ham. Or go for a single-serving main of beef cheek with truffle sauce, duck confit or pork belly roulade. We popped along to Brotzeit ourselves to try out the sharing platters and all we can say is: come hungry. Brotzeit will also be offering complimentary mulled wine shooters featuring alcoholic red and white wine and non-alcoholic apple and berry flavoured mulled wine for the kiddos. Prost!

Town Restaurant, Fullerton Hotel
Enjoy a grand and traditional Christmas Champagne Brunch at Town with charcuterie stations serving up a smorgasbord of both Asian and Western delicacies ranging from classic favourites like pastas, roasts, crustaceans, eggs and foie gras served à la minute, a huge cheese selection and range of desserts, and the star player of the season: the nasi lamak turkey. Little ones will have plenty to keep them busy with in dedicated Children’s room complete with bouncy castle. And let’s just take a moment to talk about the gin parlour and bloody mary station…
