Stylish bedroom furniture for kids (and parents)
Having children and enjoying design don’t have to be mutually exclusive. And a resistance to frills and florals in your little one’s bedroom doesn’t mean they’ll miss out on a stimulating environment. In fact, making smart choices on stylish furniture, balanced with a less is more approach, can save you money and give you more time, all while being easy on the eye.
So, say goodbye to twee and invest in a few key pieces that are timeless enough to last them from toddler to tween (or even teen in the case of the Incy Interiors bed!). This selection of hip bedroom furniture should satisfy the most design-discerning parents and fun-seeking kids!

Beds are the big ticket items when it comes to bedrooms. These options should sustain at least a few years worth of pillow fights. Tuck them in easily with this Ikea ÖVRE bed ($239), complete with a playful canopy cover. The Incy Interiors Mae bed from The Children’s Showcase ($980 for single without mattress available in a variety of bolds, pastels and metallic’s is one we want for ourselves (they do produce an adult version!). The Ki-Mono E-Ko bunk bed ($1,717.35), with its bright and bold design in solid pine is a great choice for siblings and sleepovers.
A bedroom doesn’t need to be cluttered. One or two standout items in addition to the bed leaves enough space for play and imagination. A chair to read in is always a good choice. We like the Ni-Night rocking chair ($325), Breathe 4-Legged chair, and Fred Lives Here ball chair ($775). Or for ultra comfort, the Jack and Bunny rainbow bean chair gets our vote. It comes in a rainbow of colours and are so nice and light that you’ll probably find they get moved around the house from one room to another. Add a rug to pull everything together, like the CB2 hopscotch rug (US$199), and you’ve got one stylish and personal space. Check out our article on modern kids bedding to complete the look.
It you want to add a quirky factor, we’ve rounded up some sweet and unique finds to throw into the mix. The Comfort Furniture puppy figurine is a seat, come play thing that doubles as a clothes-horse. It’s hard not to adore the whimsicalPiccolo House Indiana tent ($199), and we’re pretty sure kids would like to hole up in there with books or to play hide and seek. Brighten up the bedside with a cute safari-chic Lolli By Living Textiles lamp from Motherswork ($109) – the perfect accent piece. For the ultimate versatile furniture piece, the Danish Design Toadstool comes up trumps. Available in a variety of sizes, wood finishes, lacquers, and colours, these beauties can be used as a stool or a side table.
But finally, what do you do with all that, well, stuff? The piece de-resistance: pick up some La Cerise Sur Le Gateau (literally the cherry on the cake) storage baskets from The Children’s Showcase. They are as pretty as they are practical and come in a variety of boy and girl friendly polka-dot and have washable covers ($149.80 for large).
