Need some family holiday inspo? We'll kickstart things with this list of our own favourite vacay spots around Asia for beach, history, sunshine and fun!
We’re not going to lie to you – there’s not much we love more than a sneaky getaway to a new and easy destination around Asia, and with the end-of-year school breaks fast approaching, and now we’ve booked the kids into holiday season camps for a week or two, we’re looking for inspo for our next easy vacay. Yep, holidays are on our mind here at HoneyKids’ HQ, and we’ve been talking about the beaches, cities, islands and adventures we’ve really loved: Enter our top 10 guide to the best family getaways in Asia – all tried and tested on your behalf: you’re welcome!
1. Vietnam
There’s just so much to rave about when it comes to Vietnam that we’re not even sure where to start. We’ve dodged a billion bikes in Ho Chi Min, bought lanterns in every colour from Hoi An, built sky-scraping sandcastles on the beaches in Danang and survived a boat trip around Ha Long Bay with a toddler – and we loved every single second.
2. Langkawi
For one of the easiest family holidays of all, we never tire of Langkawi’s golden beaches, blue skies and top-notch food – here’s five reasons why we’ll always love Langkawi.
3. Boracay
If it’s a picture perfect tropical destination you’re after and the chance to build sandcastles on beaches of endless white sand, then Boracay needs to be on your travel bucket list, stat! It doesn’t get much more Insta-worthy than a cocktail on White Beach as the sun goes down… The whole island has been shut for the last six months for ‘environmental rehabilitation’ works, and is set to re-open to tourists on 26 October 2018. Woohoo!
4. Myanmar
Get off the beaten track and discover a country packed with fascinating history, amazing food, the friendliest people and SO much gold! We did a fantastic five-day mini-adventure from Yangon to Golden Rock which was a huge hit with the whole gang. If you’ve got more than just a long weekend to spare, then try and take in some of the big star player destinations such as Inle Lake, Mandalay and Bagan.
5. Bali
Sometimes tried and tested is best, and we think Bali literally has it ALL when it comes to an easy-peasy, relaxing holiday with kids in tow. Whether you plump for a decadent villa in Ubud or an all-singing, all-dancing resort in Seminyak, this is one vacation guaranteed to be a hit for all ages. It never gets tired. Check out our guide to the best beaches around the island, and don’t forget to hop over to our sister site, Honeycombers Bali, for the inside info on the best places to stay, play, shop and eat.
6. Siem Reap
For the more adventurous amongst you, Siem Reap is where it’s at for a holiday chockablock with amazing sights and mind-blowing history. We say it’s never too early to take your kiddos travelling – we did Angkor Wat with bubba in an Ergo! Older kids will love rambling over the ruins in an ancient playground packed with history and exploration opps.
7. Hong Kong
Disneyland. Need we say more? But Hong Kong also has so much more to offer when it comes to an Asian adventure with the family. Markets, beaches, and plenty of fun hustle and bustle will keep the whole fambam busy for days. We also think it’s one to put on your ‘ditching the kids for a weekend away‘ list…
8. Flores
A family holiday on a live-aboard boat, cruising unspoilt islands? Look no further than Flores for the ultimate dream holiday soaking up the sights, sea and sun of a relatively untouched pocket of Asia. No Starbucks: hurrah!
9. Krabi
Thailand never lets us down, and we have a big soft spot for Krabi when it comes to a holiday filled with stunning beaches, lovely people, great food and awesome activities for the whole family. It’s a good spot to head to if you’re after an overseas kind of Christmas: the weather is near on perfect during the festive season.
10. Rawa
10. Rawa: If you’re short on time and just can’t face hopping on a flight, then try out a few nights living as castaways on the rustic tropical island of Rawa. With swaying palms, a vibe so relaxed it’s practically horizontal and a heap of fun stuff for the kids to get busy with, you just can’t go wrong.
