How The Learning Lab Junior is transforming the learning of core subjects
There is no getting around the fact that Singapore has a competitive education environment. You can choose to go against the grain but at some point a decision needs to be made about how best to support your child so that they can keep up. Streaming into the school of your choice will be that much easier on your child (and you) if you remove pressure by introducing enrichment classes into your child’s routine sooner rather than later.
The Learning Lab (TLL) is not only the leader in academic grooming, they also have the right skills to ease your child into enhancing their learning through enrichment at an early age. Now that they’ve designed their specially tailored program, The Learning Lab Junior (TLL Junior), the perfect environment has been created to accelerate your child’s acquisition of core subjects (English, Mathematics and Chinese) in an enjoyable and rewarding way.
Establishing a strong foundation
TLL has long had a reputation for being the leading enrichment hub for discerning parents in Singapore, and nothing has changed; in fact, it has gotten better. TLL has now introduced TLL Junior, a course for young children N1 (three years) – K2 (six years), that instills confidence and readies them for learning. TLL knows that in order for learning to be successful, there needs to be a love for it. So much of what the course mentors focus on is honing a child’s natural inquisitiveness and then delivering subjects in a very engaging and inspiring way. Think: discovering why volcanoes erupt by creating one, and keeping up with current affairs by exploring the cutting-edge technology behind the Google Self-Driving Car!
English
TLL Junior explores language, grammar and literature with young learners. Through weekly storytelling sessions and visits to TLL library, which has an impressive range of books chosen specifically for preschoolers, your fledgling three-year-old learner will gain skills in communication, pre-reading and learn how to use their imagination. The structured reading program, which has students reading fluently by age seven (P1), increases confidence, memory and vocabulary. From five years of age (K1), kids are introduced to the wonderful world of creative writing, which is not only immensely enjoyable, but also prepares them for the rigours of formal schooling. Nurturing teachers encourage students to ask questions so they can build on vital listening and speaking skills; and because TLL Junior is committed to providing your child with the very best head-start to primary school, key concepts like spelling, grammar and comprehension are covered.
Mathematics
In the four years that children spend at TLL Junior, they develop a genuine love of mathematics. It’s a part of everyday life – from counting how many vegetables they don’t want, to how many chocolates they do! Visual and tactile tools like the interactive whiteboard and fun games turn difficult mathematical concepts into practical ideas that kids can grasp. As they mature, children are introduced to age-appropriate topics such as counting, heuristics, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. A recent hit was a math detective card game where junior sleuths solved crimes based on mathematical clues!
Chinese
Mastering Mandarin is essential for Singaporean and Expat kids alike. At TLL Junior, it’s all about nurturing a natural affinity for the language. The aim is for students to be bilingual – so kids are given free reign to talk, provided it’s in Mandarin! The journey begins at nursery level with a focus on Chinese culture, vocabulary and character strokes. Music and rhyme are constantly used to spark an interest in the topics. By the time they are at kindergarten, students progress to speaking and writing in sentences. Chinese culture is woven into classroom activities with students celebrating key festivities throughout the year, and kids making their own lanterns during the mid-Autumn festival is a definite highlight!
