Ready for baby to take the plunge into swimming lessons? The folks at Aquatics In Motion share why you should start as young as six months old.
Babies are a funny bunch. They either love the water or absolutely despise it and will have no qualms about showing you how they feel about it. Many of them find it fascinating – after all, it’s this mysterious, shiny thing that makes such a cool (literally) mess, whether it’s the pool, bathtub or… *gasp* the toilet. And living in Singapore, a city where it’s summer all year round and opps for swimming abound, makes you a wee bit nervous as a parent. That’s why the folks over at Aquatics In Motion think it’s important to get your bub schooled in water safety 101 from as young as six months old. Not only will they learn all the proper water safety techniques, they’ll develop water confidence and also get to bond with their fave people in the whole wide world – Mum and Dad! Want to know more? We’ve got all the deets you need to know:
Why should I enrol my tot in swimming lessons?
Although our babies were born with the neonatal reflex of holding their breath while submerged in the water, this skill goes away quickly. That’s why when it comes to swimming lessons, it’s important to get bub started when they are at least six months old. Through Aquatics In Motion’s swimming programs, your tots will be able to work on their balance, strength, coordination and motor skills. Research also shows that learning how to swim at a young age builds confidence, self-esteem and independence. And because it’s an activity that stimulates all the senses, our littlies get an extra boost in their physical, mental and even cognitive skills. The best part of all? They’re learning a life skill that can never be taken away!
What will my child learn?
For younger babies, the aquatic program teaches techniques such as how to enter the water safely, how to hold their breath when they go underwater and how to propel themselves to the side of the pool to exit safely. Toddlers, as high-energy as they are, need lessons that are fun and engaging. They’ll learn simple swim routines and drills that’ll make swim time feel like play time with cool toys and props. The folks at Aquatics In Motion have even come up with high-energy songs to boost moods and make every lesson uber fun! Before you know it, your little sweethearts will be swimming like fish!
Where can we do our classes?
The peeps at Aquatics In Motion conduct classes in both condominiums and public pools in Singapore, including Queenstown Swimming Complex, Hougang Swimming Complex and Ang Mo Kio Swimming Complex. Group lessons are capped at a maximum of six students to a class to ensure better focus and learning. Prefer one-on-one coaching? It’s available, too!
