ArtScience Museum has a range of artistic activities for the whole family to recharge and get creative over the school holidays!
With the school holidays just around the corner, it’s time to start planning some family outings and things to do with the kiddos. And if you need some help with planning – we’ve got you covered! ArtScience Museum is organising a series of creative masterclasses, holiday camps, and workshops for the whole family. Check out the line-up of awesome activities ArtScience Museum has in store.
1. Take part in creative pursuits with local artists
Art is known to be an immediate mood-booster, as it can help to relieve stress and foster a positive outlook. Making Art in Pandemic Times is a series of masterclasses and workshops conducted by four top local artists that encourages kids (and parents, too!) to express themselves through various art formats:
- Pick up basic sewing techniques to Make a Funky Face Mask or let your hands guide you to Sculpt and Make Stories with Plasticine in workshops by Weng Pixin (for kids aged five to 12);
- Learn the basics of cartooning and draw your own comic in Basics of Cartooning with Joseph Chiang, the cartoonist behind the popular Chronicles of a Circuit Breaker (for youths aged 12 and above);
- Reflect on your relationship with nature and Create a Nature-Inspired Illustration with Darel Seow, the artist behind the beautifully illustrated alphabet book Marvellous Mammals: A Wild A to Z of Southeast Asia (for youths aged 14 and above);
- Express how you feel with music, lines, shapes, and dots and Craft a Zine-Journal with Mary Bernadette Lee through drawing and collaging using magazine strips (for adults aged 18 and above).
Slots are limited for these masterclasses and workshops, so be sure to book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
When: 11-12 June, check ArtScience Museum’s schedule for the masterclasses and workshop timings.
Where: The Sun (Basement 1)
Price: $15-35
2. Create art from upcycled materials, coding, and 3D modelling during the Mini Holiday Camps
ArtScience Museum has five Mini Holiday Camps for families to choose from this school holiday, ranging from creating works of art from recycled plastics to making psychedelic ones using soap. Children can learn about how bacteria and germs react with soap and create their own experimental art piece at Surface Tension Art; take part in a first-of-its-kind tabletop game that combines architecture, art, science, and design of space exploration at Bucky in Space; as well as making upcycled pouches and shrink art using recycled plastics at the Reusable Bags and Day in the Life of Plastic #6 workshops. Not forgetting the interactive Digital Art camp that teaches kids about programming and coding, which also includes a tour of the museum’s famous Future World: Where Art Meets Science exhibit.
When: 6 June-8 July, check ArtScience Museum’s schedule for each Mini Holiday Camp’s timings.
Where: The Sun (Basement 1) and Rainbow Room (Basement 2).
Price: $68, inclusive of one accompanying adult (except Bucky in Space).
3. Join a guided tour of ArtScience Museum’s exhibitions and Marina Bay Sands
Prefer to check out the museum’s exhibitions instead? ArtScience Museum provides guided tours for families around three of their current exhibitions: the thought-provoking Hope from Chaos: Pandemic Reflections; popular manga and anime Attack on Titan: The Exhibition; and the multi-disciplinary Radical Curiosity: In the Orbit of Buckminster Fuller. There’s also the Attractions of Marina Bay Sands Tour that allows you to visit various key stops at Marina Bay Sands, including the Rain Oculus, Sampan ride, as well as giving you the best view of the Little Red Dot from the top of the iconic hotel!

4. Catch a movie at ArtScience Cinema
ArtScience Cinema features some of the best works by filmmakers from all over the world. The best part? You can catch some of these for free! So, bring the family along to catch a movie (or two) at the museum! For the June holidays, the museum will be screening Leaning Into The Wind, a documentary which follows the works of “earth magician” Andy Goldsworthy as he crafts installations from nature; Fantastic Mr. Fox, a film adaptation of the beloved children’s novel by Roald Dahl; Away, a whimsical film that combines the surrealist swathes of Dali and Ghibli’s immersive worlds; and Where The Wild Things Are, a big screen retelling of Maurice Sendak’s beautiful children’s book. Pre-booking is required for these screenings, so snag your tickets as soon as you can!
When: Check ArtScience Museum’s schedule for each film’s timings.
Where: ArtScience Cinema
Price: Free (except Away), book your seat here.
5. Share your feelings through a self-made postcard
A picture paints a thousand words, why not channel your feelings and message to a loved one through a hand-drawn postcard? Postcards from the Heart is a complimentary drop-in activity offered by the museum that allows you to tap into your feelings and express them by designing your own postcard. You can choose to send this postcard with a message to a friend, family member, or even a random stranger; or bring it home as a memento for yourself.
When: 11-12 June, 11am-6pm.
Where: Rainbow Room (Basement 2)
Price: Free admission with online pre-booking
