You may have heard of the term, “7th Month” and wondered what it is. It is a direct translation from the Chinese term Qi Yue 七月, which is the Chinese 7th Lunar Month.
The 7th Month Festival is known by various names. Traditionally, Taoists call it Zhong Yuan Jie 中元节 but to the layman, it is the 7th Month Festival. It is also known as the Ghost Festival or Hungry Ghost Festival through various interpretations. 7th Lunar Month is when Singaporean Chinese observe its traditions and beliefs, and with it comes food and the arts.
