10 things to do with the kids this weekend in Singapore: 29-30 December 2018

We're coming up to the end of the year but we've got 10 things for you to do this weekend to see you through to the new year...

Now that Christmas is over, it’s hard not to feel like we’re in festive limbo. Especially when we’re all just waiting for the inevitable return to school and work next week. But for now we’re getting on top of those Boxing Day sales with a little online shopping – 2019 is coming up fast and we’re in need of new wardrobes, new stationery and new things to do over the weekend. But don’t worry, we’ve got that last one covered.

1. Enjoy music at the Esplanade

Chill out and enjoy craft activities and free performances everyday at Esplanade. Elaine and Umar will be collaborating with R&B performances while Khim & The Mad Company will be presenting classics with a twist.

2. Celebrate Thailand’s culture and music

Dive into Thailand’s colourful culture with workshops and demonstrations by crafters and dancers, including a mesmerising traditional Thai masked dance.

3. Say hello to the future Pirate King!

It’s your last chance to check out Singapore’s first ever One Piece exhibition. See the works of Eiichiro Oda in a gallery of illustrations, check out a replica of where this artist worked and even enter a VR experience. Definitely one for pirates young and old!

4. ‘Sawadee Pee Mai!’ (Happy New Year!)

Celebrate the New Year Thai-style with a Thai food workshop and interactive play that will get the kiddos moving and grooving.

5. Spend a day out at the carnival

Oh yeah, The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival is back again this year! On top of rides and games aplenty, three of which are brand new, there will also be roving food trucks to keep you fuelled and art and craft workshops led by local artisans.

6. Shop at a festive market

Think all the festive markets have ended? Think again! Wheeler’s Market is rolling out the festive cheer to last you all through the new year. Browse locally made crafts, bakes and other artisanal products while the buskers play on.

7. Create a Hullabaloo at drop-in programmes

There’s still time to check out Hullabaloo at The Artground before the exhibition ends on 6 January. Head in this weekend and kids 0 – 12 years won’t just get to explore the colourful playground, they’ll get to take part in drop-in programmes including craft activities, interactive dance performances, festive storytelling, performative play sessions and singalongs. First come, first served!

8. Get busy with festive origami

Give your little bookworms a break from reading with an origami-making session. You’ll be able to team up to create your very own festive decoration to bring home.

9. Become a toymaker

Inspired by the tale of how abandoned girls in Shanghai made dolls to survive, this workshop will teach the kids how toys can be empowering. Kids aged five to 12 years old will decorate and dress up a Pebblechild doll as part of a heroic toy making process.

10. Work out at the park
