10 things to do with the kids this weekend in Singapore: 28-29 July 2018

There’s one more month of summer vacay for international schools to go and we’re filling up our weeks with trips to museums, the zoo and perennial fam-favourite, Universal Studios (after checking the height restrictions of course). There’s also still time to book a short weekend getaway, especially since National Day is coming up and with it an extra day off work! In the meantime, we’ve got this weekend to think about, and, as ever, we’ve filled it with 10 ideas for full-on-fun!

1. Kick off the European leagues with the International Champions Cup
Try as we might we just can’t shake the football fever but luckily the International Champions Cup is stopping off at Singapore for you to catch Arsenal, Paris Saint Germain and Atlético de Madrid compete in three glorious matches. Not enough action? You’ll also have the chance to meet your fave football heroes at Clarke Quay’s House of Football on 25-27 July.

2. Go on a gastronomic journey to Singapore’s past
This is one food fest at pocket money prices that even the kiddos can afford to treat you to. Wander Chinatown Food Street and experience the Colonial Era through iconic 1930s food and performances from street storytellers to back alley barbers – all for 50 cents!

3. Take part in an Aliwal Arts Night Crawl
Weave your way to Kampong Glam for a night of workshops, performances, art exhibits and an art market celebrating the basketry tradition and rattan shops of Arab Street. Go on a studio tour, make art out of cassette tapes and compete in Ketu-Park to become the king of Zero Point.

4. Grab yourself a good read
Celebrate National Reading Day at this big book giveaway and refresh your home library by choosing three preloved titles to bring home. You can mix and match titles or pick up a mystery bag of reads! Perfect for bookworms of all ages.

5. Conquer the Yong Siak Street Trail
It’s kids-only at this annual street trail (with a little bit of help from the grown ups)! Find treasure, complete challenges and collect stickers by playing games and participating in workshops to make cool crafts including flower cones and mocktails. There’s plenty of secrets to uncover and prizes to win – think you’re up to the challenge?

6. Fly away to an arts fest in Neverland
Kids and kids at heart can embark on an art adventure at Pasir Ris Beach. Jump around, dance and get your hands dirty with art-making, art installations and exhibition spaces. There’s parent-child workshops to learn dance and Dikir Barat Malay choral singing, and also a zentai parade where everyone is welcome to join in for a big surprise (which we aren’t going to spoil…).

7. Compete to be the best family of warriors
If you’re up to the challenge, get ready to traverse a series of obstacle courses with friends and family and compete in teams, pairs or even go it alone to be the first across the finish line! Come at least 45 minutes early to register and get active with other fun fringe activities including the 24m challenge tower, archery tag, bubble challenge and a mass workout session. Celebrate National Day and come dressed in red and white as well as giving back to the community by bringing used books and clothes to donate.

8. Pen down your thoughts
