How does city living in Singapore affect childhood development? While we’ve all become used to Singapore’s amazing indoor playgrounds, when children grow up in an urban environment without regular access to trees to climb, or wide open spaces to run free, their physical skills will develop in response to different challenges. If you want to learn more about helping your child develop body control and master movement, join HoneyKids at a special interactive workshop on 25th November, at Nexus International School (Singapore).
Is your child the product of an apartment or condo upbringing? You know the kind – expert at sliding across the floor in their socks but unsure about running on sandy beaches; can scale a sofa in a single bound but prefers to stick to smooth paths at the park rather than go off-road on their bike. We’re glad they get a workout on whatever terrain is available, but kids growing up in an urban setting are not exposed to the same sort of rough and tumble outdoor experiences that children in rural areas are. To find out how to support the physical development of your child in modern Singapore, join us for a special hands-on workshop: Developing Gross Motor Skills in an Urban Environment on Wednesday 25th November, 10am. Andrea Webb, PE teacher at Nexus International School (Singapore) will explain why mastering a wide range of motor skills is so important and how you can help your child to naturally extend and develop their physical abilities.
Most of us think of walking, running, balancing, throwing and catching as second nature. But by understanding how these skills are acquired, with expert advice from Andrea, you’ll come away with a wealth of tips for encouraging better movement and body control and be ready to design activities to challenge your kids in an urban environment like Singapore.
Best of all, by gaining some insight into how your little one transitions from wobbly toddler to sure-footed superhero, and how this happens in the safety of Singapore, you will also be setting your child up for a healthier future. Early movement and positive play experiences influence your child’s approach to life-long recreational and sporting pursuits.
This workshop is suitable for families with children up to eight years of age and will consist of a 45-minute discussion and a 15-minute practical demonstration, plus the opportunity to try out some of the skills and ask questions. If you want to give it a go, please wear comfortable clothes and sports shoes!
LUCKY DOOR PRIZE: WIN A FIRSTBIKE!
