We asked our panel of parents what they love most about having a family here in Singapore
We’ve covered a number of challenging topics with our Parents Panel so far – from the cost of living in Singapore to how to manage a helper – and now it’s time to lighten things up a little. Don’t worry, we’ll be getting back down to the stronger stuff later this month! This time, we asked our truthful Parents Panel…
What is the best thing about having a family in Singapore, and why?
“Having help! It means I’ve been able to enjoy quality time with my children and eventually go back to work full time.”
Emily Brown, British, two kids
“Singapore is one of the most family friendly destination therefore the single best thing about having a family in Singapore is definitely bringing kids to different attractions/activities and bond together as a family!”
Ashley Tan, Singaporean, two kids
“Help! Being able to afford home help is amazing and life-changing, for the better. Secondly, how family friendly Singapore is – nothing feels further then 20 minutes away making enjoying the best bits of family friendly Singapore so easy to access and enjoy. Thirdly, travel is so convenient and cheap from Singapore – our children will have more stamps on their passports by their 5th birthday then before I was 21.”
Danielle Fredford, Australian, two kids
“Singapore offers such a wide plethora of experiences to do as a family without the constraint of distance. You turn a corner and you land up at a library, a short 10 minute drive will get you to fantastic children’s park and it takes a maximum time of 20 minutes to hit a world class zoo from wherever you are – all of these are completely different experiences! No other country comes close to providing this ease and variety.”
Aruna Rao, Indian, two kids
“The world-class medical care and renowned education system.”
Sri Rahayu, Singaporean, two kids
“Safety! We do not have to worry about our children being exposed to drugs, it’s safe to go out in the evening, plus we have no fear of kidnapping. To name a few!”
Roberta Ciccone, American, five kids
“The endless summer lifestyle – there is no shortage of things to do.”
Helena Ramsdale, British, one child
“The cultural experience is amazing for the kids. With in-laws in Asia, this is the perfect place for our family to get closer to them and to better understand the Asian/Indian culture, all while enjoying a kid-friendly environment and meeting like-minded people from all over the world!”
Faith Chanda, American, two kids
“Low crime rate and safety for the family.”
Sara Valentine, New Zealand, three kids
“The Help! I can’t help but think how much more difficult life would be if we didn’t have our helper – she cooks, cleans, plays with the kids and helps our family life out.”
Jess Hart, Australian, three kids
“Most things are so child friendly; restaurants, parks, so many soft play areas by food courts, the numerous fun playgrounds at the HDBs. The weather helps too; give a kid some sunshine, a pool and a water squirter and they play for hours. The waterparks at the zoo and Jurong Bird Park are probably more fun than PoLW and Gardens By The Bay, and even those are amazing. The fact that we are able to have a helper is also an amazing thing about Singapore.”
Olga Grant, Netherlands, two kids
“It is such a safe and reliable city. It is predictable and secure.”
Carrie Gray, Australian, three kids
“Affordable help! Having 3 children, I really appreciate our 2 helpers with our busy schedule.”
Britney Williams, American, three kids
“It’s an adventure we all get to share together. Singapore is the best possible location to explore this part of the world.”
Brian Bird, American, two kids
“Safety. I’m not afraid for my daughters if they’re out and about.”
Maria Athena Catedral Bughao, Filipino, two kids
“It is very safe, with low crime rates.”
Juliana Lim, Singaporean, two kids
“To be able to afford full time help with the kids and house duties. This allows the parents to maintain a social lifestyle while still having a family.”
Adriana Diaz, Brazilian, one child
“Life is so much easier here with a young family compared with other cities. It’s easy to get around with kids, there’s lots to do as a family and being able to have a live-in helper is so useful. It means more quality time as a family as opposed to having to balance all the household ‘stuff’ as well.”
Priscilla Gosh, Australian, two kids
“The abundant Availability of post partum care options like confinement nannies and Jamu massages, domestic helpers and support networks.”
Lena Lee, Singaporean, two kids
“The ease of living with a helper, everything being so close and condo living.”
Amy James, Australian, three kids
