Looking for ways to keep your kids entertained during the September school holidays? ArtScience Museum has all the good stuff once again...
The September school holidays are here yet again, and you’re probably racking your brain to find activities to do with your kids here in Singapore. Sure, it’s only a week-long break, but dealing with a bunch of bored and restless kids at home – even for a few days – isn’t exactly what we’d call fun. ArtScience Museum knows the drill, so they’ve delivered the goods with an exciting line-up of exhibitions and family-friendly programmes. We’ve always been blown away by what ArtScience Museum has to offer, especially its recent kid-centric workshops and tours during the June holidays. Check out what’s in store this time around and why we can’t wait to head down!
So here’s the deal(s)
Before we get into specifics, we thought we’d pass along some good news on hot deals first. If you’re a NETS cardholder, you enjoy 15% off admission tickets for all exhibitions. And that’s for the whole month of September! For more flexibility and value, consider getting your hands on an All-Access ticket ($26 per child and $38 per adult for non-residents, $20.80 per child and $30.40 per adult for locals), which allows you to visit all the exhibitions. Right, let’s get to the fun stuff…
FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science – Light and Colour Workshop
Launched in 2016, Future World is a permanent exhibition that’s killing it with amazing interactive features and constantly changing installation. Case in point: A Sketch Town where children can insert their drawings into a digital scanner, and watch them become 3D animated objects on screen! We’re particularly looking forward to its upcoming Light and Colour Workshop, which sees participants carrying out cool experiments such as discovering different spectrums of light with a spectrophotometer, or witnessing how different colours of light impact our vision in a dark room.
When: 8, 22 September, 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Where: Rainbow Room, Basement 2
Details: $5 per participant, up to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
HUMAN+ The Future of Our Species – Public Guided tours
Showing till 15 October, this exhibition questions what it means to be human in a world with extremely fast-changing technology. Are there already cyborgs living amongst us today? What happens if we all could choose superpowers or enhance our bodies? The exhibition’s family-friendly public guided tours pose all these questions and more, and will certainly make you ponder where your body ends and where the machines begins.
When: 8, 22 September, 3pm-4pm
Where: HUMAN+ The Future of Our Species
Details: Complimentary to ticket-holders of HUMAN+ The Future of Our Species. Up to 25 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
SERPENTIform – Spin-a-snake: Make Your Own Zoetrope Animation by FabCafe
Love them or hate them, there has always been always been a fascination with snakes in our world. SERPENTIform is the ArtScience Museum’s latest exhibition, exploring how the snake motif has made its way into design, fashion, jewels and photography. We recommend making a beeline for the Spin-a-snake programme (1, 15, 29 September ), a fun hands-on workshop by FabCafe where kids can learn how zoetropes work and ‘bring snakes to life’ through a zoetrope animation.
When: 1, 15, 29 September, 4.30pm-5.30pm
Where: Rainbow Room, Basement 2
Details: For children aged 6 and up. $15 per participant, up to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For pre-registration, email [email protected]
