Choirs just took a big step up the cool-o-meter here in Singapore with news that the Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir (SSCC) is throwing an amazing anniversary concert: Sound Musings. Prepare yourself for a special evening of choral music performed by super talented young singers age nine to 16 years from the SSCC, and expect to tune your ears to the beautiful sounds of Echoes of the Lost World by Darius Lim, Japanese folk songs such as Sakura Sakura and the soulful notes of Rachmaninov Vocalise. And that’s just for starters!
Happy anniversary, SSCC
The Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir has been giving kids an outlet for their singing skills and encouraging its rising stars to grow personally and professionally since its formation in 2006. That’s a whole lot of talent! Fast forward to 27 May 2017, and we’re all invited to its 11th anniversary concert, when SSCC will be lifting the roof from the Victoria Concert Hall with songs chosen to bring on the good vibes in us all. Be warned though: your own kids will be stirred to audition for the choir the minute conductor, Wong Lai Foon, begins the concert.
Sound Musings
For many of us an evening of choral music conjures up a slight air of stuffiness, but we love that the SSCC dismisses this misguided belief the moment it bursts into its amazing line-up of toe tapping melodies and soulful harmonies. You’ll be hooked! Suitable for kids age six and above, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce choral music to everyone, with a set including Chen Zhang Yi’s Water, Wah-bah-dah-bah-doo-bee! by Ivo Antognini and classics by Mendelssohn and Mozart. Music to our ears, indeed!
When: 27 May 2017, 7.30pm
Where: Victoria Concert Hall, 9 Empress Place, Singapore 179556
