Perfect fillings surrounded by pastry
Pies are good no matter where you’re from. A footy match is not the same in Australia without a pie and sauce in your hand. The British institution of a pie and mushy peas makes some lie back and think of England. The Samosa is practically a daily staple in a nation of over 1 billion while also conquering the world. And the French are known for their ability to elevate the creation of pastry to an art-form. The popularity of pies has come a long way since Roman days where the case was thrown aside and only the contents eaten.
Why are we banging on so effusively? Because, if you can’t already tell, we are pie lovers. So the news that Aussie micro-bakery, Pie Face, is setting up shop in Singapore means our love is now reciprocated!
All you need to know is that their new café is situated at 313 Somerset and your nose will do the rest. Each of their gourmet pies are baked from scratch on-site and are made with the flakiest pastry. They come in such a variety of fillings, that you’ll need to keep coming back to try them all as they’re all so good! Here’s a selection: Chunky Steak, Tandoori Vegetable, Thai Chicken Curry and Chicken & Mushroom. Oh and they come in large and small sizes. So, really, you could even try 2 small ones at once – whose looking?!.
All sounding a bit savoury? Have no fear, sweet-tooths are not forgotten. The Pie Face dessert selection is just as extensive, with flavours like Lemon, Butterscotch, and Raspberry & White Chocolate. They come in very handy if you’ve got people coming for dinner and not enough time to make dessert. Just add ice cream.
If you don’t love them as much as us, we’ll eat humble pie!
Prices range from $3 for a small pop to $5.20 for premium pies.
