Looking to enrol your child at a tuition provider in Singapore, but not sure where to start? As part of our School Selector, we interviewed a series of parents across Singapore’s best enrichment centres and international schools, to help you decide which curriculum, campus and teaching approach suits your little one best. Here, we chat to mum Susan Foo, whose youngest child studies at The Learning Lab.
Tell us about the child you have attending The Learning Lab?
Shermaine is 12 years old. She has studied English at The Learning Lab for four years, and also started Maths one year ago. We also do workshops now and then to help us get an in-depth understanding of different areas at the school that interest us.
What were the most important factors for you in selecting an enrichment centre?
We wanted a comprehensive and customised curriculum, and teachers who are professional, compassionate, and committed. We felt that TLL has a really nice ambience – it’s so cosy and clean! Also, the library has a wide range of books that can be borrowed, and the team of front desk staff is polite, helpful, and so knowledgeable about all aspects of the school.
How has The Learning Lab lived up to your expectations?
Shermaine’s grades have really improved, and the school provides regular reports on her progress. The additional parent-child workshops are great, and I find the customer service and follow-up skills to be very good.
What does your child like most about attending this enrichment centre?
She finds the teachers very motivating, supportive, encouraging, and they’ll always spend extra time with her if she needs it. She also likes the ambience of the classroom and the whole school premises, plus the summary of ‘Tips & Tricks’ and extra notes that are provided to help her.
What advice would you give other parents trying to choose a tuition provider?
I’d tell them that TLL offers value for money in so many ways: the number of tuition hours, the background and experience of the teachers, the strong curriculum, the beautiful classroom/school environment, and the small class sizes.
What do you value most about The Learning Lab?
I appreciate the curriculum, the excellent teachers, and the friendly and helpful customer service.
Are you satisfied with the level of communication you receive from the school and how they engage parents?
Yes, it’s absolutely sufficient. I especially appreciate the regular progress reports and follow-up.
How much homework is expected of your child?
I think it’s a good level of homework, taking her an average of 1-1.5 hours weekly.
