As parents in Singapore we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to schools, both local and international. Academically, we know our children will be taught very well. But what about the other skills that are expected in life, especially when entering the workforce? How do we teach our kids to stay motivated, be resilient and become independent? Most of us adults probably just picked these things up along the way, some admittedly better than others. What if we could turn back the clock and spend some dedicated time learning how to not procrastinate so much, how to build relationships, or simply how to concentrate? Here we look at how the programs at I Am Gifted!™ can help you give your kids (aged 9-19) the skills and attitude to succeed in all parts of life. You never know, you may also learn a few tricks for yourself.
1. Get motivated. Stay motivated. Stop procrastinating!
Most of us start out with a world-beating, “I can do anything” attitude, but then convince ourselves that we’ve earned a night of Netflix, and that our growing to-do list will look much easier to tackle tomorrow. Our good friend ‘logic’ just doesn’t step in to remind us that the longer we leave things, the harder they’ll become. The I Am Gifted!™ program reflects the belief that all children are born gifted in the area of motivation, as well as creativity, leadership, self-expression, and learning. All they need to learn is how to have a winning mindset to overcome setbacks and be able to motivate themselves towards success. For parents, the program focuses on how to motivate and nurture the little genius in your child.
2. Confidence is king
They say confidence is contagious, so what better way to learn this skill than to hear the success stories of others? Many of the trainers at I Am Gifted!™ – including founder Adam Khoo – have inspiring life stories of overcoming the odds: once considered underachievers, they went on to rank among the top students at their universities. It’s all about nurturing the mindset of the kids to mould them into more confident individuals by learning from relatable role models. Not only that, the skills are applied to real world situations by learning how to express ideas and speak confidently during presentations and interviews.
3. Manage time, don’t let time manage you
Ah, that magical, elusive thing called ‘time’. We never have enough of it. We don’t know anyone who wouldn’t benefit from a lesson in how to better wrangle time, so if we can save our kids from themselves before it’s too late, we will! At I Am Gifted!™, study techniques are taught to give children the tools to study more efficiently with a high comprehension level, which gives them more time for other things. We love the note-taking strategy, where kids learn how to revise around 10 pages of notes by learning how to take out the key words instead of going back through an 80-page textbook all over again. Hello, productivity.
4. Make friends, love your family, goooooo team!
There are days when the introverts among us would rather stay in bed with a pile of novels and a steady stream of online food deliveries, but even we know we’ve gotta have friends to get by in the real world. The courses at I Am Gifted!™ help kids learn how to understand and communicate better, work well with others, build a great team spirit, and even how to show respect and appreciation for family members (hurrah for that!).
Of course, the best people to tell you about all this are the I Am Gifted!™ trainers themselves, so they’re inviting you to join a free three-hour introductory workshop in October or November to see if it works for you and your family. Click here to find out more and register for the free workshop.
