Boo! It’s almost Halloween. It hardly seems a year since we were eating brains at the awesome HoneyKids Halloween party at the American club. If the idea of finding epic costumes for your little ghosts and goblins is spooking you more than A Nightmare on Elm Street, you’re not alone. How many times have we procrastinated and hastily thrown together a costume from random stuff from around the house at the very last minute? Not this year people. If your poppet has dreams of dressing up as a mini-Olympian, a character from Pokémon Go or something a little more scream-worthy, we’ve got the lowdown on where to source everything you’ll need to make it happen. We’ll direct you to the best places to buy or rent Halloween costumes and how to finish off the look with make-up and face paint for the kids before you jet off to fun Halloween happenings around Singapore. (Psst: If you’re blessed with a crafty touch and time on your hands, check out our guide to DIY Halloween costumes.)

We think My Mini-Me, a relative newcomer to the online kids costume rental scene, has a fabulous business model. You select online from hundreds of cuuuuute kiddie costumes including a wide range of Disney outfits (but we can’t go past the baby snowman – so squeezable). Collect from Raffles Place MRT for free or pay a six-dollar delivery charge. And with prices starting at $20 a week rental it’s got to be one of the cheapest on the island. And as a bonus for busy parents, you don’t need to clean prior to return. We love a good timesaving hack.

Costumes ‘N’ Parties
We know matching costumes for the whole family can be a little passé, but few sights are as adorable (or photo-worthy) as a family of Minions or Star Wars characters. Everyone can get in on the action at Costumes ‘N’ Parties – deck your hubby out in ghost busters garb and your newborn as a baby chicken (and choose a svelte little number for yourself!). From wacky and spooky to heroic and adorable, your kids are free to unleash their inner heroes or princesses with the huge selection costumes available.

This party merch retailer receives top marks not only for its outstanding selection of festive goodies, but also for convenience factor (it’s located in both Holland Village and Raffles City). While the costume selection isn’t as varied as its counterparts, classics such as swashbuckling pirates, witches and dragons will save the day. Fab for last-minute panic buys. We’re all over the mother-daughter Wonder Woman outfits for a super-heroine moment this spooky season.

This one-stop party shop may be small, but its gargantuan stock of Halloween costumes means there’s something for literally everybody (even plus-sized women!). Does your child want to be Darth Vader, Captain America or the Little Mermaid? They’re all here. We’re also more than a little afraid of the teen section with terrifying horror get-ups (like grim reaper and wicked scarecrow). You can always rely on H&M for its annual range of Halloween outfits and accessories including masks, superhero costumes and Alice headbands with bat ears– they’re perfect last-minute lifesavers. And if all else fails, go for the glow-in-the-dark skeleton pyjamas, which area an annual staple. One item we are definitely snapping up this season is the devilishly darling faux fur black bat shoulder bag (and we might let our little one use it when we’re done…).

While Halloween is all about good scares, treats and frighteningly fun times, it’s admittedly also a time for grand costumes and eye-catching, memorable ensembles. Take your child’s costume a step further with an expertly painted face by the team at Happier Singapore. If you’re throwing a Halloween bash, why not make this part of the entertainment? From elaborate butterflies to blue-faced Avatar creatures, the options are endless.
To add a little eerie pizzazz to your little one’s costumes, check out Gumtoo’s range of quirky tattoos. We love the Halloween set for adding a ghoulish touch to any ensemble, and the themed tatts including the adorable space or nautical styles. These tattoos are washable (easily removed with baby oil) and non-toxic, so you’ll only have to mark their skin for the night!
