Monster Jam is coming to Singapore for the first time, and here's why we're excited about a bunch of giant trucks!
I’ll be honest, I haven’t been this excited about an event in Singapore since I heard my husband in a parallel universe, John Taylor, was coming to strut his stuff on stage with Duran Duran back in 2012. Yep, Monster Jam is roaring into town on 19 August and having recently had the chance to sit behind the wheel of the ridiculously exciting El Toro Loco (no mean feat when you only reach the lofty heights of 5 foot and are wearing wedges) my engines are well and truly revved for this massive show. Here’s why a pint-sized, middle-aged mum can’t wait to bag front row seats at the family sporting event of the year…
Five cool facts that make us LOVE Monster Jam
1. Monster Jam is 25 years old this year, and in that quarter of a century it has been seen live by over four MILLION fans in 27 countries around the globe. Folks are instantly hooked by the family-friendly fun the show absolutely guarantees for all ages, and we can’t wait to have the likes of Grave Digger, Blue Thunder and Scooby Doo ripping up the arena in true Monster Jam style.
2. Each Monster Jam truck is around 10.5 feet tall, 12 feet wide (almost as wide as my bottom), 17 feet long and weigh approximately 10,000 pounds! Feld Entertainment, who runs the shows, owns 53 of these bad boys! I did try to persuade them to let me drive one but, sadly, that pipe dream will have to go unrealised (for now).
3. Monster Jam engines operate on a massive 1500 horsepower (F1 cars generate around 800 horsepower!). The mammoth trucks are powered by methanol fuel, ensuring the whole family will have a blast watching these monsters leap in the air and speed around the arena defying gravity.
4. Around 6,000 tons of dirt and 3,000 pieces of plywood are used to build a Monster Jam track – and it takes around 24 hours to create!
5. The Monster Jam event is the only sporting event that hosts a massive party that we are ALL invited to: for just $10 extra you can join the Pit Party for an afternoon with the kiddos where you’ll get up close to the 10 trucks featuring in the show, and hang out with their drivers. Photo ops and meet-and-greets galore!
