Your Cost Effective Summer Camp Alternative
Do you make the most of your nearest Community Centre? Do you even know where it is? No, we didn’t either until recently. And what a discovery! We realized there’s no need to fork out big bucks on Summer Camps every school holiday if we don’t want to – there are plenty of awesome classes on at our local CC. So we’re spreading the news: design your own holiday program for your kids with community centre classes at a fraction of the usual cost.
The Scoop on Community Centre Classes Singapore
The government established community clubs and centres (CCs) in neighbourhoods across the island as a platform for residents of all walks of life to meet while engaging in recreational activities and learning opportunities. The CCs fall under the care of People’s Association, a statutory board formed to promote racial harmony and social cohesion. CC’s are dotted across the island in convenient locations and you can find one near you on the PA website.
Community Centre Classes
Courses and activities for children at the CCs include everything from arts to abacus, calligraphy to creative writing, so there is something for everyone. This is just an example of some of the classes on offer:
- Speech and Drama
- Martial Arts – Aikido, Wushu
- Art – Painting, Drawing, Cartooning, Chinese Calligraphy
- Maths – Abacus, IBrain
- Creative Writing
- Dance – Ballroom, Hip Hop, Indian, Chinese, Ballet
- Music – Piano, Violin, Guitar, Ukulele
Most activities cater to kids aged 4-12 years old and are all conducted by qualified external trainers, so you know they’re in good hands. Let the creativity flow and let them learn concepts of colour, mixing, shapes and dimensions with art classes and cartooning.
Thankfully, the CCs don’t neglect teenagers, which is great if there’s a big age range in your brood. Think Adobe Photoshop courses, circus arts, kayaking, Krav Maga self-dense, and even leather crafting for your teenagers.
