If you’re currently choosing a preschool in Singapore, there’s a new option in town that combines an international curriculum with sought after local expertise.
If you’re on the hunt for a good preschool in Singapore, you may have stumbled across the name Patricia Koh. A veteran of the preschool education industry here, Patricia held the role of Head of the National Institute of Education, Early Childhood Department for 10 years. She then started the much-loved Pat’s Schoolhouse in 1988, and served as the President of the Preschool Teachers’ Association for 16 years (she’s quite the busy lady). Now, Patricia is using her enviably strong experience to provide high quality and innovative education to the little people who are lucky enough to call Maple Bear Havelock their preschool home.
Maple Bear Havelock welcomed its first eager students earlier this year, throwing open its doors to reveal impressive facilities, loads of space, and lovely classrooms bathed in natural light. This is the largest Maple Bear – a Canadian international school with 13 locations – in Singapore to date, with almost 12,000 square feet of classrooms, a huge indoor playground, and even a waterfall area. The indoor playground was carefully designed to stimulate physical, brain, social and emotional development, and the classrooms have been beautifully designed to keep little people happy and engaged throughout the day. We also like the ‘Imaginative Play’ area, where kids can experiment creatively and develop their problem-solving skills at the same time.
Little imaginations can also run wild with the 14-metre long ‘Special Art Wall’, which features the students’ works, all of which are created in the Fine Arts Program. Kids as young as 18 months get to take part, learning art techniques and creating their own little masterpieces to display proudly. There’s also a cookery corner, a ‘Letterland’ corner, and a tactile learning corner, so the kids are never short of fun and stimulating things to do in this holistic education approach. It’s not just the preschoolers who get to have all the fun, as the bright and cheery infant room also offers bucket loads of interesting things to do, with highly qualified infant caregivers keeping a close eye on all the littlies (spaces are available from two months of age).
The caregivers and teachers at Maple Bear Havelock have all been personally hand-selected by Patricia Koh based on her strong expertise and her local and international knowledge. She’s worked hard to find the crème de la crème, hiring teachers who she knows are devoted and dedicated to Early Childhood Education. All the teachers have worked in their field for at least five years, and many have up to 20 years’ experience. Given she’s regarded as having been responsible for raising the standards of teacher training and the quality of preschool education across the island, being hired by Patricia is quite the pat on the back for any early childhood teacher in Singapore.
If you’d like to see for yourself what Patricia Koh’s expertise and her passionate team have created at Maple Bear Havelock, get in touch and pop in for a cup of tea with her! If you mention you heard about the new school through HoneyKids they’ll waive the registration fee, provide two sets of uniforms free of charge, and give you a nifty $100 discount on their fees for the first three months. But best be quick, you’ve only got until 10 August 2016!
