We must confess to having a big soft spot for little dancing people. The reckless abandon of a child letting loose to their favourite tune is one of life’s greatest warm-and-fuzzy moments, as far as we’re concerned! If you feel the same, you may have read our thoughts on Tanglin Arts Dance Studio a few months ago, and perhaps even signed up for some lessons. If not, the good news is it’s now even easier to get your kids’ groove on, with a new fee structure at the Loewen Gardens studio meaning more affordable classes and no long-term commitments. Let’s boogie.
If you’d like to give your kids more structure in their dance education than “watch mum do the worm!”, but you don’t want to get too serious about it, Tanglin Arts Dance Studio is probably the place for you. This is a dance school students flock to for the socialising just as much as the dancing, and the teachers are only too happy to encourage them! Students come from international schools all over Singapore, hailing from many different countries and speaking a range of languages. So, there’s much to be learned from each other simply by hanging out and navigating the dance routines together. In fact, the lovely ladies at the studio told us one of their greatest measures of success is when a mum asks for the phone number of another mum, to arrange a play date! We’ve also heard that many of the students call the studio their ‘happy place’ because they feel challenged, supported, and excited to go every week.
Aside from making lifelong friendships and having a good weekly gossip session, what do the kids at Tanglin Arts Dance Studio get up to? They might try their hand (or foot) at some tap dancing, fling themselves through the air in the acrobatics class, or plié the day away in ballet. There’s also jazz, hip hop, boys’ street theatre, and musical theatre, known by insiders as Glee Club. The Glee Club brings together acting, singing and dancing, culminating in some fabulous performances of classics from Broadway and the West End.
Broadway glory is now closer than ever for the kids of Singapore: As we mentioned earlier, the lovely studio at Loewen Gardens is changing its fee structure from January 2017 to make fun and friendly dance lessons more accessible to everyone. There’s no minimum commitment, no registration fee, and you only pay for the classes your kids actually take. The 60-minute classes now cost only $160 for a five-class pass, $300 for a 10-class pass, or $420 for a 15-class pass – the 15-class pass makes it $10 per class cheaper than the previous rates!
Whether your kids are bound for the West End or you just want them to never lose that spirit of dancing like no one’s watching, now’s the time to grab a few classes at Tanglin Arts Dance Studio and see where their little feet take them!
Budding HoneyKids dancers can enjoy a free trial class at all Tanglin Arts Dance Studio locations and skip the registration fee!
